Project Engineer - Utility Scale Solar (Civil Design)

About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated Project Engineer to support the development and execution of utility-scale solar energy projects. This position is ideal for a civil engineer with experience in site design, grading, drainage, and land development who is looking to play a key role in the rapidly growing renewable energy industry.
The Project Engineer will work closely with project managers, design teams, developers, contractors, and clients to deliver high-quality engineering solutions from project inception through construction.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and review civil engineering designs for utility-scale solar projects.
- Develop site layouts, grading plans, drainage and stormwater management designs, erosion and sediment control plans, and access road designs.
- Perform site feasibility evaluations and support due diligence efforts during project development.
- Coordinate with surveyors, geotechnical engineers, environmental consultants, and permitting agencies.
- Support project permitting efforts at the local, county, and state levels.
- Assist with equipment layouts and coordinate civil design requirements with electrical and structural engineering teams.
- Review construction drawings and technical specifications for accuracy and constructability.
- Conduct engineering calculations and prepare technical reports.
- Support construction activities by responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and providing technical guidance during project execution.
- Track project schedules, budgets, and design deliverables to ensure successful project completion.
- Participate in client meetings and provide technical presentations as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- 3+ years of experience in civil engineering design, land development, or renewable energy projects.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Experience preparing grading, drainage, stormwater, and erosion control plans.
- Familiarity with hydrology and hydraulic modeling software.
- Understanding of site development and permitting processes.
- Strong knowledge of civil engineering design standards and best practices.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting projects ranging from 5 MW to 500+ MW.
- Knowledge of utility-scale solar site constraints, tracker layouts, and construction methodologies.
- Familiarity with renewable energy development practices and permitting requirements.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Previous experience working for a solar developer, EPC contractor, engineering consultancy, or renewable energy firm.
