The Operations team seeks a seasoned Solar Technician Level II with utility-scale solar field and substation experience. This role is pivotal in exceeding industry standards, with opportunities for professional growth as AES continues to expand in the industry.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Manage operations and maintenance activities at solar sites for utility-scale projects.
  2. Perform corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance on equipment like inverters, trackers, combiner boxes, PV modules, and systems.
  3. Conduct routine electrical troubleshooting, calibration, and repairs.
  4. Prepare and execute switching and clearance orders.
  5. Operate electrical and mechanical power plant systems.
  6. Participate in training sessions.
  7. Perform other duties related to power facility operation and maintenance.
  8. Assist with vegetation mitigation, operating tractors, mowers, and maintenance equipment.
  9. Document procedures, instructions, and operational reports.
  10. Ensure compliance with Environmental and Safety standards.
  11. Work independently or in teams.

  2. Troubleshoot DC & AC circuits and PR Array Ground Faults.
  3. Qualified for routine and emergency operations at solar and substation facilities.
  4. Experience with electrical/construction projects and basic IT equipment.
  5. Knowledge of substation equipment and operations.
  6. Collaborative, effective communication, and professionalism.
  7. Team-oriented with strong interpersonal skills.

Education / Experience:

  1. 2-year technical degree or equivalent Journeyman qualifications.
  2. At least 3 years’ experience as a PV O&M solar technician.
  3. 5+ years in power plant operations, with at least 1 year in PV Solar O&M or construction.
  4. Knowledge of electrical fundamentals, control circuits, and solid-state theory.
  5. Understanding of operational characteristics of power equipment.

Working Conditions:

  1. Outdoor work environment.
  2. Ability to work at heights, in varied temperatures, and humidity.
  3. Physical requirements include standing, walking, climbing, and entering equipment.
  4. Use of personal protective equipment required.
  5. Potential exposure to rotating, energized equipment, chemicals, and hazardous materials.
  6. Occasional lifting and non-standard hours, including travel.
