Job summary

Samsung C&T Renewables America seeks a Structural Engineer specialized in utility-scale Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). You will handle structural analysis, foundations, and integration of renewables, evaluating racking, trackers, and heavy BESS enclosures to meet environmental loads.

Responsibilities include developing specs, reviewing vendor calculations, and ensuring compliance with ASCE 7, IBC, ACI, and AISC. 3–5 years of relevant design experience is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• 3–5 years of dedicated structural design experience in utility-scale solar and BESS sectors.
• Experience with structural analysis software and code compliance (ASCE 7, IBC, ACI, AISC).

About the Role

We are seeking a Structural Engineer specializing in utility-scale Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). In this role, you will be responsible for the structural analysis, foundation design, and structural integration of renewable energy assets. You will develop technical specifications, evaluate racking and tracker systems, design foundations for heavy BESS enclosures, and ensure all installations withstand localized environmental loads.

Structural Analysis & Design

• Perform structural analysis and design for solar tracker/fixed-tilt racking systems and BESS foundations.
• Design shallow and deep foundations, including driven piles, concrete slabs-on-grade, and equipment pads.
• Evaluate structural integrity against localized environmental hazards, including high wind speeds, seismic forces, frost heave, and heavy snow loads.
• Review, analyze, and interpret geotechnical reports to determine appropriate structural engineering parameters.
• Develop comprehensive structural engineering specifications for solar trackers, fixed-tilt structures, and BESS enclosures.
• Review and validate structural calculations, drawings, and product certifications submitted by racking and BESS vendors.
• Conduct structural feasibility assessments for projects utilizing terrain-following trackers on complex topography.
• Author technical scopes of work for third-party civil and structural engineering consultants.

Field Support & Compliance

• Review fabrication drawings, calculations, and field modification requests (RFIs) during construction.
• Provide technical resolution for structural construction anomalies, pile refusal issues, or field remediation needs.
• Ensure all designs strictly comply with applicable building codes (e.g., ASCE 7, IBC, ACI, AISC) and project-specific requirements.
• Education: Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a highly related field.
• Experience: 3-5 years of dedicated structural design experience within the utility-scale solar and BESS sectors.

Technical & Soft Skills

• Proficiency in structural analysis software such as STAAD. Pro, SAP2000, RISA-3D, LPILE, or equivalent tools.
• Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with Civil 3D or specialized solar design plugins is a plus.
• Deep knowledge of steel design (AISC), concrete design (ACI), and building code loading criteria (ASCE 7).
• Solid understanding of pile-soil interaction, pile testing protocols (axial, lateral, pull-out), and corrosion mitigation.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills to coordinate effectively with cross-functional engineering teams and contractors.

The expected salary range for this position is $150,000 - $180,000 annually Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as the candidate’s experience, skills, education, and location.
