Job summary

Hisense USA is seeking a Software Test Engineer to develop comprehensive test plans and execute functional, performance, stability, and UX testing for TV software. The role involves defect management, reviewing requirements, and coordinating with development teams to ensure issues are resolved efficiently.

You will conduct UX trials, perform compatibility testing with HDMI devices and streaming platforms, and analyze logs to identify root causes.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in software testing or QA in a related engineering role.
  • Solid understanding of software testing principles, methodologies, defect management, and SDLC.
  • Hands-on experience with functional, performance, stability, compatibility, and UX testing.
  • Experience testing Smart TV platforms such as Google TV/Android TV, Fire TV, Roku TV, VIDAA, or similar.
  • Knowledge of video/audio technologies (formats, codecs, resolutions, HDR, multichannel audio).
  • Familiarity with HDMI, CEC, ARC/eARC, HDR, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, streaming apps, and TV tech.

Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive test plans and test cases, and execute testing across functional, performance, stability, compatibility, and UX areas.
  • Identify, document, track, and manage defects; coordinate with development teams to verify and close issues.
  • Review requirements and design documents to ensure coverage aligns with product scenarios.
  • Conduct UX testing and user trials to evaluate usability and overall customer experience.
  • Perform compatibility testing with external devices and interfaces (HDMI devices, streaming devices, gaming consoles, etc.).
  • Assist in investigation and reproduction of field/customer-reported issues via phone, email, remote connection, or lab setups.
  • Analyze customer feedback and field issues; elevate findings to engineering/product teams.
  • Analyze logs and diagnostics to identify root causes of software and system issues.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, troubleshooting guides, FAQs, test reports, and support materials.

  • Develop comprehensive test plans and test cases, and execute functional, performance, stability, compatibility, and user experience testing for TV software.
  • Identify, document, track, and manage software defects, and work closely with development teams to ensure issues are analyzed, resolved, verified, and closed in a timely manner.
  • Review product requirements, technical specifications, and design documents to ensure test coverage aligns with product requirements and expected user scenarios.
  • Conduct user experience (UX) testing and organize user trials to evaluate product usability, functionality, and overall customer experience.
  • Perform compatibility testing with external devices and interfaces, including HDMI devices, audio systems, streaming devices, gaming consoles, and other consumer electronics.
  • Support the investigation and reproduction of field and customer-reported issues, including troubleshooting via phone, email, remote connection, or laboratory reproduction.
  • Collect and analyze customer feedback and field issues, and elevate findings to appropriate engineering or product teams for resolution and follow-up.
  • Analyze software logs and other diagnostic information to identify potential root causes of software and system-level issues.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, troubleshooting guides, FAQs, test reports, and other technical support materials.
  • Maintain laboratory test environments, test equipment, and test devices to ensure reliable and accurate test results.
  • Continuously evaluate and adopt new testing methodologies, automation tools, and technologies to improve test coverage, efficiency, and product quality.
  • Collaborate with local and international engineering, product, quality, and technical support teams throughout the product development and post-launch lifecycle.
Requirements / Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 3+ years of experience in software testing, software quality assurance, or a related engineering role; experience with TV, display, consumer electronics, or embedded software is strongly preferred.
  • Solid understanding of software testing principles, methodologies, defect management processes, and the software development lifecycle.
  • Hands-on experience with functional, performance, stability, compatibility, and user experience testing.
  • Experience testing Smart TV platforms such as Google TV/Android TV, Fire TV, Roku TV, VIDAA, or similar platforms is preferred.
  • Good understanding of fundamental video and audio technologies, including common video/audio formats, codecs, resolutions, frame rates, HDR, and multichannel audio.
  • Familiarity with HDMI, CEC, ARC/eARC, HDR, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, streaming applications, and other TV-related technologies is a plus.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to reproduce, isolate, and clearly document complex technical issues.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical information effectively to engineering teams, customers, and other stakeholders.
  • Strong customer-service orientation and the ability to patiently understand customer-reported issues and provide effective technical guidance.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a cross-functional team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong commitment to software quality and attention to detail.
  • Good command of written and spoken English, with the ability to collaborate effectively with international and cross-functional teams.
