Job summary

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking a Software Engineering Manager 2 to lead a software development team in an Agile environment. The role is based in San Diego, CA or Oklahoma City, OK and requires full-time on-site work with travel up to 25%.

The ideal candidate will have a STEM degree with significant engineering and leadership experience in real-time software, plus strong knowledge of SDLC, embedded software architectures, and modern tooling (Docker, Kubernetes).

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline with 9 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline with 7 years; OR a PhD in a STEM discipline with 4 years of related engineering experience.
• Prior leadership experience using Agile development, including Product Owner, Scrum Master, and/or team member roles.
• Experience with the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
• Experience with developing software used for flight critical, safety critical, medical, or mission critical applications.
• At least 4 years of recent experience in C, C++, Java, or Python.
• Familiarity with data interfaces (1553, RS-232 Serial, Discrete & Analog I/O, Ethernet/IP, Fiber Channel).
• Active US Government Top Secret clearance (with background check within past 5 years or Continuous Evaluation).
• Ability to obtain and maintain SAP access (PAR) prior to commencement and during employment.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of approximately 10–20 individuals to complete the full SDLC in an Agile software development environment.
• Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of SW products to meet cost, schedule, and technical requirements as a work package manager.
• Report Agile metrics and EVMS status to the Sub IPT lead and program leaders, managing risks.
• Collaborate with Software, Systems Engineering, Test Automation, DevOps and Systems Test to meet contract objectives.
• Provide technical guidance, leadership, and mentoring to the team.
• Provide functional management to direct reports including staffing, onboarding, and career guidance.
