Job summary

Waymo LLC’s Onboard Software Integrity team is building architectures, tools, and workflows to prevent, identify, and guide fixes for software integrity across Waymo’s autonomous driving systems. We focus on ML model fidelity, nondeterminism in onboard and offboard software, and onboard reliability to maintain high development velocity.

This role involves designing instrumentation to diagnose non-determinism, investigating execution patterns across codebases, and contributing to software health

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Master’s or PhD in software engineering or related field.
• Solid foundation in algorithms, data structures, and systems debugging.
• Strong programming skills in C++.
• Experience with statistical data analysis, anomaly detection, or tracing tools.
• Experience with graph execution frameworks.
• Understanding of sources of software non-determinism (e.g., concurrency/race conditions, floating-point determinism).

Responsibilities

• Design and build infrastructure and tooling to diagnose software non-determinism across autonomous driving systems.
• Investigate and resolve non-deterministic execution patterns across Waymo codebases.
• Contribute to ensuring software integrity across onboard systems and ML models.

• The Onboard Software Integrity team’s goal is to build out architectures, tools, and workflows to prevent, identify, and guide fixes to ensure software integrity across Waymo
• We focus the organization on critical areas such as the numerical fidelity of ML models across devices, non-determinism in both onboard and offboard software, and overall onboard reliability. We are accountable for the onboard software health while enabling high development velocity
• Design and build infrastructure and tooling to diagnose software non-determinism across autonomous driving systems
• Investigate and resolve non-deterministic execution patterns across Waymo codebases
