Job summary

RTX invites students to join the Raytheon Fellowship Program for summer 2027 as part of a software development team. You will collaborate on development, integration and testing of software for aerospace systems, with opportunities to grow into a full-time role following graduation.

Eligible students are sophomores or juniors or seniors pursuing a BS, with a path to a national security clearance. A signing bonus and future bonuses are described in the program.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or related field and will be at least Sophomore by summer 2027.
  • Software development experience with Java and Unix/Linux; C++ or C# experience also preferred.
  • Willingness to learn and work in a fast-paced defense/software environment with security clearance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform development, integration, testing and documentation to ensure proper operation of hardware and software platforms.
  • Integrate diverse applications and ensure performance, stability and efficient resource use.
  • Develop software to enable component integration, new capabilities, and testing; write unit tests and participate in reviews.

What You Will Do:

Bring your talent and skills to Raytheon Software Engineering team! The selected candidate will intern with Raytheon during summer 2027 as part of the Raytheon Fellowship Program.

About the Raytheon Fellowship Program:

Seeking students in their sophomore or junior year or seniors if pursuing a master’s. Upon program acceptance, participants will be submitted for a national security clearance. Participants may be eligible to receive a $10,000 signing bonus, and an additional $10,000 signing bonus upon converting to full-time employee status post-graduation (payable within 60 days of employment and subject to all applicable withholdings). Participants will sign an offer agreement, committing to remain with Raytheon for a minimum of two years after becoming a full-time employee. As an employee you will have opportunities to grow your career beyond software if you choose. Former Software employees are now Vice Presidents of various Raytheon Businesses. We also have dozens of Engineering Fellows recognized throughout industry as the subject matter experts in their fields. Work as a software developer and integrator as part of a development team which utilizes a diverse dynamic workforce, including many experts in their fields.

Specific duties include:
  • Responsible for performing development, integration, test and documentation duties to ensure proper operation of hardware and software platforms
  • Integrate a wide variety of applications from various sources, integrate and ensure they meet performance standards for stability and resource utilization
  • Develop software as necessary to integrate between components, perform new capabilities, to facilitate testing, etc.
  • Adhere to accepted standards for development, including writing unit tests which provide a high percentage of code coverage, participating in code peer reviews, conducting design reviews, and generating test plans to ensure maximum stability and quality of code.
Qualifications

You Must Have:

  • This position is for an intern who is enrolled in a Bachelor’s (or higher) degree program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or related field and will be at minimum Sophomore, Junior, Senior or Post Grad year by summer 2027. Software development experience with Java and Unix/Linux Software development experience with C++ or C#
We Prefer:
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python, JavaScript, Bash, Ruby or R and familiarity with a JavaScript framework such as React, Angular, Vue.js or Next.js
  • Experience with version control software such as GitLab or CVS
  • Experience with continuous integration tools such as Jenkins or GitLab CI/CD
  • Experience or familiarity with SAFe Agile development practices

Relocation Eligible

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
