Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Software Engineer for the Virtual Test Platforms team to design, implement, deploy, and support virtualization technologies that accelerate vehicle development and improve quality and reliability. You will work with embedded systems teams and contribute to the engineering system codebase.

You will grow into a subject matter expert in virtualized testing of distributed embedded systems, sharing knowledge and best practices across GM’s engineering community.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in computer science or related field.
• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production systems.
• Strong proficiency in at least one native programming language including C, C++ and Rust; willingness to learn more.

Responsibilities

• Configure and customize virtual test environments (KVM, QEMU, Android Emulators) and make them available via cloud services.
• Help product teams integrate virtual test environments into development loops and CI/CD processes.
• Author virtual devices to enhance test coverage and fidelity including VirtIO drivers.
• Implement custom test tools and simulators to increase test throughput and quality.
• Enhance collection, parsing, and reporting of test results via reports and dashboards.
• Write production-quality code, prototypes, and reference implementations to unblock teams.
