Job summary

J&T Business Consulting is seeking a Software Engineer (Level 1) in Fort Meade, MD, to design, develop, test, and enhance complex, high-performance software systems while meeting rigorous security standards.

You will contribute across all phases of the software development lifecycle, implement advanced algorithms, process large datasets, and work with cross-functional teams to evaluate requirements and optimize performance.

Qualifications

• Security Clearance: Active TS/SCI with a current Polygraph.
• Core Software Engineering: full-lifecycle software development, algorithm implementation, and debugging.
• Integration & Systems Flow: experience integrating software solutions into new or modified platforms, environments, and database architectures.
• Testing & Documentation: author test procedures, document test results, and draft clear software design specifications.
• Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline plus 7 years, or 11 years without a degree.
• Hands-on experience developing processing-intensive data analytics and manipulating extremely large datasets.
• Leading small technical tasks or sprint teams within structured development methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Analyze user needs and operational requirements to derive software design and performance specifications.
• Design, code, and test new software features and modify applications for new hardware or environments.
• Develop, optimize, and implement algorithms to meet performance criteria.
• Create and execute test procedures, resolve defects, and document outcomes.
• Design complex database interfaces, queries, and data extraction routines.
• Use mathematical modeling to predict design outcomes and system behavior.
• Collaborate with systems engineers, end users, and leads to evaluate data usage and workflows.
• Author and review technical documentation and recommend process improvements.
