About the Opportunity
We're working with an early-stage robotics company in Boston developing advanced intelligent systems designed for real-world environments. Their mission is to build highly capable, adaptable, and dependable robotic platforms that bridge robotics and machine learning.
As the team continues to grow, they are looking for a Robotics Software Engineer to join their R&D function and play a key role in developing scalable, high-performance robotic systems from the ground up.
Responsibilities
- Optimise performance across the robotics software stack, improving data flow efficiency and reducing system latency.
- Develop observability, monitoring, and diagnostic tooling to support system reliability and faster troubleshooting.
- Build automated testing and validation frameworks to detect failures, behavioural anomalies, and hardware degradation.
- Conduct system identification experiments to improve simulation accuracy and controller tuning.
- Create streamlined deployment pipelines and internal tooling for machine learning workflows and rapid experimentation.
- Develop robust, production-quality software in C++, while using Python for scripting, automation, and data analysis tasks.
- Identify performance bottlenecks and contribute to ongoing improvements in scalability, reliability, and system architecture.
- Support the integration of safety-critical functionality across robotics and machine learning systems.
Required Experience
- Degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 3+ years of industry experience developing production-level software using C or C++.
- Strong understanding of multithreading, memory management, and real-time systems.
- Experience working with ROS2 or comparable robotics middleware frameworks.
- Strong Linux debugging and profiling experience for diagnosing performance and latency issues.
- Experience deploying machine learning models using frameworks such as TensorRT or ONNX on robotic or edge devices.
Nice to Have
- Exposure to safety-critical systems or functional safety environments.
- Knowledge of control systems, rigid body dynamics, system identification, or robotics physics.
- Experience building CI/CD pipelines, automated testing systems, or telemetry/visualisation tools for robotics platforms.
- Familiarity with robotics simulation environments.
- Experience with perception systems, sensors, or camera integration.
