Join a growing engineering team building the backend infrastructure that powers insurance and protection products across global markets. As a Software Engineer, you will design, develop, and operate reliable backend services and APIs that support policy management, coverage, enrollment, and regional business rules. You will contribute to a scalable platform that enables new product launches and helps improve the experience of hosts and guests. Working closely with Product, Design, Data Science, Legal, and other engineering teams, you will translate complex business and regulatory requirements into robust technical solutions. You will also help build experimentation capabilities that support data-driven decisions and improve product adoption. This remote-eligible opportunity offers the chance to solve meaningful engineering challenges while contributing to secure, reliable, and scalable systems.

Accountabilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs supporting policy administration, coverage management, enrollment workflows, and regional insurance rules.

  • Translate product requirements, business objectives, and regulatory constraints into clean, maintainable, well-tested code and configurable platform functionality.

  • Build and improve distributed services within a service-oriented architecture, ensuring reliability, scalability, and operational excellence.

  • Develop data pipelines, event-driven systems, and experimentation capabilities that enable Product and Data Science teams to measure performance, evaluate offers, and optimize coverage adoption.

  • Implement robust monitoring, logging, alerting, and metrics to maintain service health, identify performance issues, and support effective troubleshooting.

  • Analyze product and operational data to identify conversion gaps, reliability concerns, and opportunities for continuous improvement.

  • Collaborate with Product, Design, Data Science, Legal, Infrastructure, Security, Privacy, and other engineering teams to deliver solutions that meet business needs and regional requirements.

  • Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and engineering planning to promote high-quality development practices and sound technical decisions.

  • Contribute to operational readiness and participate in on-call rotations, helping diagnose incidents and improve system resilience.

  • Support the evolution of a flexible platform capable of accommodating new markets, changing regulations, and future product offerings.

Requirements:

  • At least 3 years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong focus on backend development and production services.

  • Proficiency in at least one backend programming language, such as Java, Kotlin, Python, or Go.

  • Experience designing, building, deploying, and operating backend services and APIs in production environments.

  • Working knowledge of relational databases, SQL, and data modeling fundamentals.

  • A bachelor's or master's degree, preferably in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Strong software engineering fundamentals, including writing testable code, participating in code reviews, designing maintainable systems, and troubleshooting complex technical issues.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders and translate business, product, and regulatory requirements into technical solutions.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • An analytical and proactive mindset, with the ability to use data to guide decisions, identify opportunities for improvement, and deliver reliable results in a changing environment.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience building and maintaining distributed systems and service-oriented architectures in production.

  • Familiarity with A/B testing, experimentation platforms, event instrumentation, and data-driven product optimization.

  • Experience in insurance, payments, fintech, financial services, or other regulated industries.

  • Exposure to multi-region systems, configurable platforms, or rules-based business logic.

  • Experience working with infrastructure, security, and privacy teams to deliver reliable systems that meet data protection requirements.

  • Ability to navigate ambiguity, balance competing priorities, and work collaboratively across engineering and business teams.

Benefits:

  • Competitive base salary: Annual compensation ranging from $162,000 to $186,000 USD, depending on experience, skills, and other relevant factors.

  • Additional compensation: Potential eligibility for performance bonuses and equity, subject to the applicable compensation package.

  • Employee benefits: Access to a benefits package designed to support employee well-being and financial security.

  • Employee travel credits: Potential eligibility for travel credits as part of the overall compensation offering.

  • Remote work flexibility: US-remote-eligible position, with occasional office visits or team offsites as agreed upon with the manager.
