Job summary

NinjaHoldings in Chicago is seeking a Software Engineer Intern to gain hands-on experience with our engineering team, building and improving the technology behind CreditNinja, NinjaCard and Edge offerings.

You will be paired with a mentor, collaborate with developers, QA, and product managers, and contribute to features and bug fixes. The internship runs May–August 2027 with a 40-hour week, hybrid in-person 2x per week downtown.

Qualifications

• Incoming junior or senior pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Familiarity with Ruby on Rails (or willingness to learn).
• Basic understanding of programming concepts and object-oriented design.
• Some experience using Git or other version control systems.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Enthusiasm for learning new technologies and working in a team.

Internship Summary

As a Software Engineer Intern, you'll gain hands-on experience working with our engineering team to build and improve the technology that powers NinjaHoldings' financial products. This internship is designed to give you exposure to real-world software development, mentorship from experienced engineers, and the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to projects that impact thousands of customers.

You’ll be paired with a mentor and collaborate with developers, QA engineers, and product managers. While you won’t be expected to know everything from day one, you'll be encouraged to learn, ask questions, and grow your technical skills in a supportive and fast-paced environment.

When: May-August 2027

Location: Hybrid, downtown Chicago HQ (in-office 2x/week). Candidates must be local or able to relocate independently - relocation assistance is not provided.

Schedule: 40 hours/week

Key Responsibilities:

Ideal Candidate Will Have:

• Incoming junior or senior currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
• Familiarity with Ruby on Rails (or willingness to learn)
• Basic understanding of programming concepts and object-oriented design
• Some experience using Git or other version control systems
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Enthusiasm for learning new technologies and working in a team
