Job summary

Ad Hoc LLC is hiring a software engineer for a remote role focused on Drupal development and full-stack capabilities. You will work on important public-sector digital services, collaborating with teams nationwide to deliver scalable solutions.

The position emphasizes strong coding practices, mentorship, and ongoing architectural understanding. The role requires a Bachelor's in CS (or related field) and 5+ years of engineering experience with Drupal, HTML/CSS/JS, PHP, and MySQL.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of engineering experience, with Drupal development.
  • Proficiency in front-end and back-end technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and MySQL.
  • Familiarity with Apache configurations; strong problem-solving and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • Estimates and completes development tasks with guidance from the team.
  • Mentor junior developers and share knowledge.
  • Diagnose issues in own systems and prioritize fixes.
  • Participate in on-call rotations as needed.
  • Present work to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to planning and architecture discussions.
  • Assist with recruitment by evaluating assignments and interviews.
  • Drive improvements in engineering processes and practices.
  • Understand business goals and how engineering work supports them.

The Federal Civilian business unit supports many customers spanning the federal, commercial, and nonprofit space. Our customers include NASA, the General Services Administration, Office of Personnel Management, the Library of Congress, Health & Human Services, and the FDIC. We partner with these agencies to build new capabilities, deliver products, establish data as a strategic asset for informed decision-making, modernize legacy systems, and build the digital service infrastructure necessary to scale their mission impact.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Estimates and completes development tasks including coding, requirements gathering, and analysis with a little feedback and guidance from their team
  • Practices technical and communications skills to improve context knowledge and mentor junior developers
  • Assess and diagnoses issues with the systems they own, prioritizing problem areas based on alignment with other practice areas
  • Participates in on-call rotations with their team as necessary
  • Presents on and writes about their work to both internal and external parties
  • Participates in planning sessions, building an understanding of major architectures and design patterns
  • Supports recruiting efforts by evaluating homework assignments and potentially assisting with interviews
  • Exhibits influential skills to drive improvements in team engineering processes and practices
  • Exhibits a comprehensive understanding of the business, how practices interact, and what customer problems we're solving
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of engineering experience (Computer Science or related field)
  • Relevant years of experience may be substituted for education
  • Proven experience with Drupal development
  • Strong proficiency in front-end and back-end technologies
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and MySQL
  • Familiarity with Apache configurations
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Progressive experience with relevant technologies, understands roles with which they interact and how their work impacts business goals
Preferred Qualifications
  • Develop and maintain Drupal websites and applications, hosted on Acquia
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features
  • Write readable, efficient, and testable code
  • Troubleshoot and debug issues
  • Keep up to date on industry trends and technologies
  • Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback

Actual compensation is influenced by a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and responsibility.
