Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC is seeking a Software Engineer II to join a remote-friendly team. You will work on producing scalable web applications using a modern stack including Scala/Java, Elasticsearch, and Postgres, contributing to distributed engineering efforts across multiple time zones.

The role emphasizes autonomous project work with oversight, collaboration, and proactive problem-solving in a highly remote environment. English fluency and EU work authorization are required.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of relevant software development experience.
• Experience building production-ready, scalable web applications.
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (ideally Scala and/or Java).
• Experience with Elasticsearch and/or other relevant technologies like Postgres.
• Desire to work in a highly remote/distributed but collaborative environment. (the company has offices in San Francisco, Denver, New York and Lisbon but the vast majority of Engineering has chosen to work remotely)
• Willingness to take on-call responsibilities.
• Fluency in English (verbal and written).
• Legally authorized to work in the EU.

Responsibilities

• Complete assigned tasks that are comprehensive and thought out
• Proactively collaborate with team members to find the best solutions
• Form opinions while seeking input from a diverse group of team members on how to solve a problem
• Recommend solutions to enhance existing processes and understand resources available to overcome unforeseen issues
• Learn to proactively anticipate small roadblocks to accomplishing tasks and use knowledge of business unit processes to navigate
• Learn to manage expectations and accurately gauge effort needed to accomplish objectives
