Position Purpose

The Software Engineer II is responsible for independently developing and assisting in the design of a product that our customers and associates love. As a Software Engineer II, you will be part of a dynamic team with engineers of all experience levels who help each other build and grow technical and leadership skills while creating, deploying, and supporting production applications. In addition, Software Engineer IIs may be involved in configuration, security, resilience, performance tuning, and production monitoring.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Delivery and Execution (60%): Collaborates and pairs with other product team members (UX, engineering, and product management) to create secure, reliable, scalable software solutions; documents, reviews, and ensures all quality and change control standards are met; works with the product team to ensure user stories are developer-ready, easy to understand, and testable; writes custom code or scripts to automate infrastructure, monitoring services, and test cases; writes custom code or scripts for destructive testing to ensure resiliency; programs configuration/modification activities on large projects using approved methodologies; configures off-the-shelf solutions to meet business needs; creates dashboards, logging, alerting, and responses to proactively address issues.
  2. Learning (20%): Actively seeks growth opportunities through formal and informal channels; learns from successful and failed experiments when tackling new problems.
  3. Planning and Alignment (20%): Collaborates with team members in agile processes; helps create new ways for the team to succeed; relates openly with diverse groups; builds partnerships and works collaboratively to meet objectives.

Management and Travel

  • This position typically reports to a Software Engineer Manager or Sr. Manager.
  • No direct reports.
  • No travel required.

Physical and Working Conditions

  • Mostly sitting with opportunities to move; occasional lifting of light articles.
  • Located indoors; infrequent unpleasant conditions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be 18 or older.
  • Legally permitted to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of ML full-stack experience in cloud environments.
  • Experience with back-end technologies like Java and Python.
  • Experience with MLOps and AI platforms (preferably Vertex AI or similar).
  • Understanding retrieval systems and related challenges.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience.
