Job summary

Shield AI’s HMS Factory Team seeks a Software Engineer II to develop Python-based tooling for analyzing simulation data and testing autonomy systems. You’ll work with autonomy and systems engineers to evaluate AI Pilot behaviors through repeatable simulations and data-driven performance analysis.

This hands-on role involves Python and some C++ tooling, containerized environments, and contributing to scalable testing workflows.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or equivalent practical experience in a related technical field.
• Foundational Python development experience through coursework, internships, research, or work.
• Familiarity with Linux, Git, and automation tooling.

Responsibilities

• Develop, test, and maintain Python scripts and libraries for analyzing simulation data and extracting metrics.
• Support tools that process simulation outputs, telemetry, rosbags, and other test artifacts.
• Help build and maintain automated test workflows and wrappers around internal test orchestration tools.
• Assist with developing test adapters, configuration files, and automation utilities in Python and C++ when needed.
• Contribute to scenario-generation tools that create varied simulation conditions for testing autonomy behaviors.
• Create domain-randomization scripts that vary environmental and sensor parameters across runs.
• Investigate failures by reviewing logs, telemetry, rosbags, and test results.
• Maintain reusable test templates and standardized reporting outputs to improve repeatability.
• Support containerized development/testing environments (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.).
• Contribute to prototype configurations for distributed testing and batch simulations (Terraform, Kubernetes manifests).
• Support source control, CI/CD pipelines, and build troubleshooting.
