About Applied

Autonomy is one of the leading technological advances of this century that will impact our lives. At Applied, you will contribute to accelerating the efforts of top autonomy teams worldwide. We offer a unique perspective on developing cutting-edge technology, collaborating with industry leaders globally.

Applied Intuition provides software solutions for the safe development, testing, and deployment of autonomous vehicles at scale. Our suite of simulation, validation, and drive log management software enables rapid scenario creation, large-scale simulations, and algorithm validation for deployment. Headquartered in Silicon Valley with offices worldwide, our team comprises experts from top global companies. Leading autonomy programs and most top OEMs use our solutions to bring autonomy to market faster.

About the role

We seek a software engineer with expertise in control systems for autonomous vehicles or mobile robots. Responsibilities include developing control modules for guiding various vehicles over challenging off-road terrains, such as steep slopes and sandy or muddy surfaces. These modules must deliver high performance due to critical timing, thermal, and power constraints.

Beyond engineering, you'll work within our dynamic, customer-focused team, contributing to and learning from best practices in the emerging autonomy industry. We value speed and excellence in our products and business. If you are hands-on and eager to make a significant impact in autonomous systems, Applied is the place for you!

Responsibilities
  1. Design and implement control modules for autonomous off-road vehicle navigation.
  2. Characterize vehicle dynamics to tailor control solutions and bridge simulation and real-world behavior.
  3. Evaluate academic research to develop optimal control solutions using techniques like nonlinear MPC and MPPI control.
  4. Collaborate with customer engineers and manage relationships.
Qualifications
  • Passion for solving challenging control problems involving diverse vehicles in off-road environments.
  • 3+ years of experience developing production software with modern practices.
  • Hands-on experience testing controls on real, production-grade vehicles.
  • Strong knowledge of differential equations, numerical optimization, analysis, and physics.
  • Enthusiasm for practical solutions to cutting-edge challenges in a fast-paced setting.
Nice to have
  • MSc or PhD in mechanical engineering or computer science with controls research or coursework.
  • Experience with safety-critical C++ coding standards like MISRA and AUTOSAR.
  • Proficiency with quadratic programming solvers and nonlinear optimization tools such as OSQP, SCS, CasADi.
  • Experience applying machine learning to vehicle dynamics modeling.
  • High-performance C++ coding skills.
  • Experience with large industrial off-road vehicles.

The salary range is $65,000 to $400,000 USD annually, subject to variation based on company practices.
