Control Engineer 3 - Tysons, Virginia - Remote

Job Overview

Control Engineers design, develop, install, and maintain equipment used to monitor and control systems, machinery, and processes across various applications including industrial controls, cybersecurity, building automation, water/wastewater, power controls and protection, energy management, and transportation systems. They are experts in advanced process control, instrumentation, distributed control systems, PLCs, and SCADA systems, using these skills to craft solutions for complex customer needs.

Responsibilities

  1. Design / Engineering
  • Develop design documents for small projects and support large programs, including narrative documents, requirements analysis, subsystem designs, specifications, QA/QC reviews, factory testing procedures, and comment resolution.
  1. Programming
  • Lead programming efforts for automation and SCADA applications; program/configure/troubleshoot PLCs, RTUs, and HMI systems.
  1. Testing / Troubleshooting / Deployment / Commissioning
  • Author test procedures, prepare reports, originate test procedures, and perform commissioning and factory/field testing.
  1. Maintenance
  • Troubleshoot service calls, upgrade and replace hardware/software on systems.

Managerial Responsibilities

  • Prepare cost estimates, assist with bids and proposals, evaluate change orders, assign tasks, and coordinate with technical staff.

Field Experience

  • Read electrical/control schematics, experience with system startup, configuration, calibration, testing, troubleshooting, and industry tools/software.

Tools / Software

  • Experience with computer networks, CAD/CAE software (AutoCAD, EPLAN), and MS Office.

Requirements

  • Proficient in ladder logic and structured text programming languages.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with PLC/DDC platforms such as Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Schneider Electric, Niagara Framework, ABB, Omron, KMC Controls, Johnson Controls Metasys, Honeywell WEBS, Johnson Control FX, Siemens Desigo/Apogee, Distech Controls, Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, GE.
  • Experience with SCADA platforms like Wonderware InTouch, Ignition, GE iFIX, Siemens WinCC, Rockwell FactoryTalk, Schneider Citect, GE Historian, etc.

Preferred Licenses / Certifications

  • DBIA, CSSA, CAP, Engineer in Training, certifications in PLC/Automation platforms and SCADA platforms.

Education / Experience

  • Master's in electrical/automation engineering with 3-5 years of experience or Bachelor's with 5-7 years.

Salary Range: $94,425 - $151,080
