Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a backend engineer to design, implement, and maintain APIs used by web and mobile apps, collaborating with senior engineers to build reliable, scalable systems in production. You will integrate with data sources, support user-facing features, participate in code reviews, and uphold reliability, performance, and security standards.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years of backend experience in production, with Python or JavaScript/TypeScript (Node.js) and API design familiarity.

Qualifications

Job description

• Design, implement, and maintain backend services and APIs used by web and mobile applications
• Work with senior engineers to build reliable, scalable backend systems in production environments

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience building backend systems, or equivalent experience through internships, projects, or coursework
• Experience with at least one modern backend language such as Python or JavaScript/TypeScript (Node.js)
• Familiarity with designing or consuming APIs and working with databases or data stores
• Exposure to production environments
• Understanding of reliability, performance, and security fundamentals
• Experience or interest in data pipelines, real-time data systems, distributed systems, machine learning, data-intensive systems, or large-scale data processing is a bonus
• Familiarity with cloud platforms, CI/CD workflows, or DevOps concepts is a bonus
• Must be a U.S. Person due to U.S. export control regulations
• Must be authorized to work lawfully in the United States
• Must not require visa sponsorship or visa transfer
• Must live in or be willing to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area
• Must be able to work onsite in San Carlos, CA, 3+ days per week
