Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a backend engineer to design, implement, and operate scalable services including identity, graph, and persistence components. You will collaborate across teams to translate product requirements into robust solutions and constantly evaluate trade-offs for innovative products.

You will test, debug, and advocate best practices for availability, scalability, and cost management while participating in incident or hotfix investigations as needed.

Qualifications

Experience building backend services or distributed systems.
Ability to independently implement medium-sized features over a few weeks.
Experience ensuring highly available systems at scale.
BS/BA degree in a technical field such as Computer Science or equivalent years of experience.

• Design, implement, and operate critical and scalable services, including user identity services, friend graph, and core persistence layer
• Work across teams to understand product requirements, evaluate trade-offs, and deliver solutions for innovative products
• Evaluate, test, and debug work to ensure high quality
• Advocate for and apply best practices for availability, scalability, operational excellence, and cost management
• Participate in incident or hotfix investigation and resolution as needed

Requirements

Experience with backend services or distributed systems
Ability to independently execute medium-sized features over a few weeks and multiple PRs
Ability to understand system operational aspects and participate in incident or hotfix investigation and resolution
Ability to collaborate and work well with others
Proven track record of operating highly available systems at significant scale
BS/BA degree in a technical field such as Computer Science or equivalent years of experience
Experience coding in an industry-standard language such as Java, Kotlin, Swift, Python, or C++
Preferred: experience with NoSQL solutions, Memcache/Redis, Kubernetes, or Google/AWS services
Preferred: experience in large-scale microservices and distributed systems, cloud computing and storage systems, infrastructure and large-scale system design, security, networking, or data storage

Core Competencies

Demonstrates expertise in designing and implementing scalable backend services and distributed systems, with a strong focus on operational excellence and high availability. Proficient in coding with industry-standard languages and experienced in cloud computing and microservices architecture.
