Job summary

Mia Labs is hiring a Software Engineer (AI/ML) to work on our voice AI platform in Austin, TX. You will tackle real-time speech processing, LLM orchestration, and TTS components to deliver fast, reliable experiences on calls.

You will collaborate with a small core product team, gain mentorship from the AI lead, and help shape model selection, optimization, and vendor testing while focusing on latency, cost, and quality improvements.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of software development experience.
• Strong engineering fundamentals including production code and instrumentation.
• Experience with observability tooling and data-driven decisions.
• Startup mindset with broad ownership and fast iteration.
• Ability to explain AI behavior to non-technical teams.

Responsibilities

• Build and optimize real-time voice AI pipeline with latency targets.
• Improve model performance and run evaluations in production.
• Develop instrumentation, dashboards, and alerting.
• Optimize cost by increasing throughput of open source LLMs.
• Evaluate vendors and test new voice and language models.
• Ship R&D features like backchanneling and multilingual support.
• Implement AI guardrails for live customer calls.
