Mia Labs is hiring a Software Engineer (AI/ML) to build and optimize the real-time voice AI pipeline powering our call experiences. You will tackle latency, model quality, and cost while evaluating vendors and integrating diverse AI capabilities.

This is a small core team with mentorship from the AI lead and a strong emphasis on producing reliable, scalable software. You will contribute across the stack, implement guardrails, and help ship features like backchanneling, multilingual support, and

Qualifications

• 2-5 years of software development experience, including internships.
• Strong engineering fundamentals and production-ready code.
• Familiarity with observability tools and metric-driven decisions.
• Startup-ready mindset with broad ownership and fast iteration.
• Excellent communication to explain AI behavior and tradeoffs.

Responsibilities

• Build and improve the real-time voice AI pipeline: speech-to-text, LLM orchestration, and text-to-speech with latency targets.
• Improve model performance in production and run evaluations.
• Improve instrumentation, dashboards, and alerting.
• Optimize cost by improving throughput of open source LLMs.
• Collaborate with vendors (Anthropic, Azure OpenAI, Deepgram, NVIDIA) and test models.
• Ship AI R&D features into production (backchanneling, emotional expressiveness, multilingual features).
• Implement AI guardrails so models behave correctly on live customer calls.
