Job summary

BARNES & NOBLE BOOKSELLERS, INC. in Westbury, NY is seeking a Technical Analyst to join a team of developers specializing in Microsoft technologies.

You will meet with stakeholders to understand requirements, design components, test results, and support production deployments for stores, website, and corporate offices. The role requires a BS in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent), five years of Dot Net programming, plus strong SQL Server/Oracle experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent experience.
  • Five years of experience in Dot Net programming.
  • Five years or more experience with SQL Server and/or Oracle databases.
  • Knowledge of Retail or retail-based systems a plus.
  • Cobol a plus; knowledge of EDI a plus.
  • Strong .NET, API/Web Services, and SQL tooling.
  • Experience with VIsual Studio and version control.
  • Ability to design scalable, distributed applications.

Position Overview

The Technical Analyst is part of a team of developers whose primary responsibility is to develop applications predominantly utilizing Microsoft technologies to support the business. In this position, you will be expected to meet with key stakeholders to understand and document business requirements, develop and design efficient program components using industry standards and best practices, document test results, and raise tickets as needed for production deployments. You will also participate in creating project plans and reporting project status to management. You will also provide production support for applications that support the stores, website, and corporate office.

  • Collaborate with team members to build effective, scalable solutions
  • Participate in status meeting and be able to communicate project status
Position Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical degree, or equivalent experience
  • Five years of working experience in Dot Net Programming
  • Five years or working experience with SQL Server and/or Oracle databases
  • Knowledge of Retail or Retail based systems a plus
  • Cobol a plus
  • Knowledge of EDI a plus
  • Microsoft .Net C#
  • Microsoft .Net framework version 4.5 and above
  • Microsoft.Net Core framework version 2.0 and above
  • WPF, Winforms, Webforms and MVC

  • Client side scripting using Java Script and JQuery

  • SQL Server 2012 including SSMS, SSRS and SSIS

  • Design patterns
  • Distributed and scalable application development
  • Familiarity with version control systems such as PVCS/Subversion/TFS
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to clearly articulate yourself and ideas both verbally and in writing to users and management.

An employee in this position can expect an annual starting rate of $120,000 - $135,000 depending on experience, seniority, geographic locations, and other factors permitted by law.
