Job summary

Motion Recruitment Partners is seeking a Software Engineer to join the Back End Machine Learning team, based in San Mateo, CA. The role is a 1-year W2 contract with most work performed remotely and monthly onsite meetings in San Mateo.

You will design, build, and deploy scalable backend services and ML-powered features for a global gaming platform. The ideal candidate has 4+ years of experience with Java, Python, or Golang, experience with ML frameworks, and familiarity with Docker and

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS or equivalent practical experience.
• 4+ years hands‑on design and programming experience in Java, Python, and/or Golang.
• Experience building scalable, OO web server apps backed by NoSQL stores.
• Hands‑on experience with AWS and/or GCP.
• Background in ML development and application.
• Experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain RESTful Web Service APIs and supporting algorithms.
• Develop, train, test, and deploy ML models at scale.
• Collaborate cross‑functionally with console, backend, and QA teams to implement features.
• Diagnose and resolve operational issues to maintain high availability.
• Contribute to technical docs, diagrams, and knowledge bases.
• Operate within an Agile/Scrum development methodology.

In this role, you will help shape the future of gaming by building cutting‑edge backend systems powered by machine learning, computer vision, and AI technologies. This exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of backend engineering and machine learning begins as a 1-year W2 contract engagement based in San Mateo, CA offering competitive benefits and the potential to extend or convert to permanent employment. Most work will be completed remotely, but candidates must be able to attend meetings in the San Mateo office approximately once per month.

Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and maintain RESTful Web Service APIs and supporting algorithms
• Develop, train, test, and deploy machine learning models at scale
• Collaborate cross‑functionally with console, backend, and QA engineering teams to implement and validate new features
• Diagnose and resolve operational issues quickly to maintain high service availability
• Contribute to clear technical documentation, system diagrams, and internal knowledge bases
• Operate within an Agile/Scrum development methodology
• Explore and apply emerging technologies to deliver world‑class gaming experiences

Skills & Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
• 4+ years of hands‑on design and programming experience in Java, Python, and/or Golang
• Proven experience building highly scalable, object‑oriented web server applications backed by NoSQL data stores
• Hands‑on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS and/or GCP
• Background in Machine Learning development and application
• Experience working with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow
• Familiarity with DevOps practices, containerization, and orchestration tools including Docker and Kubernetes

Preferred Qualifications:

• Exposure to Computer Vision, Graphics, and/or Game Engine technologies
