Job summary

Independent Software, Inc. is seeking a Software Engineer to build a Kubernetes-native application that orchestrates workloads in containerized environments. You will work with Go, TypeScript, and Python to develop backend services and modern web interfaces.

You will collaborate with engineering and infrastructure teams to troubleshoot issues, improve deployment reliability, and support automated CI/CD and GitOps workflows. Strong cloud, Kubernetes, and RESTful API skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Solid background in software development across backend and cloud-native systems.
• Proficient in Go for production services and cloud-native apps.
• Web app development using TypeScript, HTML, CSS.
• Hands-on Kubernetes, Helm, and GitOps with ArgoCD.
• Docker, RKE2 or similar orchestration know-how.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain cloud-native apps using Go, TS, and Python.

• Deploy and manage containerized apps with Kubernetes, Docker, Helm.
• Support orchestration, provisioning, and infra integration using Rancher, RKE2.
• Implement GitOps workflows with ArgoCD and automation tools.
• Develop RESTful APIs, event-driven services, and messaging solutions.
• Troubleshoot apps, containers, networks, and infra issues across environments.
• Collaborate with software, systems, and infra teams on deployments.

Job description

What You Will Do:

As a Software Engineer at Independent Software, you will develop, enhance, and maintain a Kubernetes-native application that orchestrates and deploys workloads within containerized environments. You will work with modern cloud technologies, microservices, and web-based interfaces to support mission-critical systems.

You will collaborate with engineering and infrastructure teams to improve application functionality, troubleshoot complex technical issues, and ensure reliable software deployment and operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain cloud-native applications using Go (Golang), TypeScript, and Python.
• Develop and enhance web-based user interfaces using TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.
• Build, deploy, and manage containerized applications and microservices using Kubernetes, Docker, and Helm.
• Support Kubernetes orchestration, workload provisioning, and infrastructure integration using Rancher, RKE2, and related technologies.
• Implement and maintain GitOps workflows using ArgoCD and other deployment automation tools.
• Develop and integrate RESTful APIs, event-driven services, and messaging technologies.
• Troubleshoot application, container, networking, and infrastructure issues across complex environments.
• Collaborate with software, systems, and infrastructure teams to support integration, deployment, and operational requirements.
• Maintain technical documentation, follow development standards, and contribute to continuous improvement.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Strong professional software development experience, including backend and cloud-native applications.
• Proficiency in Go (Golang), including experience developing production services.
• Experience developing web applications using TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.
• Experience with Kubernetes, Helm, and GitOps workflows using ArgoCD.
• Hands-on experience with Docker, RKE2, or similar container orchestration technologies.
• Experience with infrastructure provisioning, hardware/software integration, Ansible configuration management, and cloud technologies.
• Experience with Rancher and Containers as a Service (CaaS).
• Understanding of microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, and system design.
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures and messaging technologies such as Kafka.
• Experience working with SQL databases in containerized environments.
• Strong troubleshooting, debugging, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Desired Skills:

• Experience with Atlassian tools such as Jira, Bamboo, and Fisheye.
• Experience with Agile development, continuous integration, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Linux or UNIX system administration experience.
• Knowledge of SIGINT systems and data flows.
• Experience with Kafka, NiFi, MetalLB, and MinIO in production environments.
• Familiarity with infrastructure automation using cloud-init or Terraform.
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus or Grafana.
• Experience with Rancher technologies, including Harvester, Longhorn, and KubeVirt.
• Experience with AWS services such as EKS, S3, Lambda, and RDS.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and maintain technical documentation.

Education and Experience:

Candidates must meet one of the following education and experience combinations based on the position level.

Level 2:

• High School Diploma/GED or Associate's Degree: 18 years of relevant software engineering experience.
• Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science or a related technical field: 14 years of relevant software engineering experience.

Level 3:

• High School Diploma/GED or Associate's Degree: 24 years of relevant software engineering experience.
• Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science or a related technical field: 20 years of relevant software engineering experience.

Clearance Requirement:

• Must possess an active TS SCI with appropriate Polygraph to be considered for this role
