Job summary

Independent Software is seeking a Cloud Software Engineer Level 2 to design, develop, and maintain Big Data cloud applications supporting mission-critical operations. Role requires extensive full-stack JavaScript experience, plus hands-on work with Hadoop ecosystems and cloud data processing.

Qualifications

What You Will Do:

As a Cloud Software Engineer Level 2 at Independent Software, you will design, develop, maintain, and enhance complex Big Data Cloud applications supporting mission-critical operations. You will work with distributed computing technologies, data processing systems, and modern software development frameworks to build scalable and reliable solutions. This position requires extensive full-stack JavaScript development experience using Node.js and TypeScript, along with experience supporting cloud-based data processing, information retrieval, and distributed computing environments

• Design, develop, test, and maintain complex cloud-based software applications.
• Support Big Data processing, indexing, and information retrieval across distributed systems.
• Develop and integrate Java applications, RESTful services, and database interfaces.
• Implement and support Hadoop ecosystem technologies, including HDFS, HBase, MapReduce, YARN, and ZooKeeper.
• Develop workflows for distributed data processing and analytics.
• Troubleshoot software defects, optimize application performance, and support system integration.
• Collaborate with development teams to improve software quality, documentation, and development processes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, test, and maintain complex cloud-based software applications.
• Develop full-stack applications using JavaScript, Node.js, and TypeScript.
• Support Big Data processing, indexing, and information retrieval across distributed systems.
• Develop and integrate Java applications, RESTful services, and database interfaces.
• Implement and support Hadoop ecosystem technologies, including HDFS, HBase, MapReduce, YARN, and ZooKeeper.
• Develop workflows for distributed data processing and analytics.
• Troubleshoot software defects, optimize application performance, and support system integration.
• Collaborate with development teams to improve software quality, documentation, and development processes.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Extensive full-stack JavaScript development experience, including Node.js and TypeScript.
• Experience developing applications in Big Data Cloud and distributed computing environments.
• Experience with Java, object-oriented programming, and RESTful web services.
• Experience with Hadoop ecosystem technologies such as HDFS, HBase, MapReduce, YARN, or ZooKeeper.
• Experience with information retrieval, distributed data processing, and database technologies.
• Experience working with Linux/UNIX environments.
• Strong software development, debugging, testing, and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience integrating and processing data from multiple sources and formats.

Additional requirements:

• Two (2) years of Cloud and Distributed Computing Information Retrieval experience.
• One (1) year implementing code interacting with Cloud Big Table.
• One (1) year implementing code interacting with Cloud Distributed File Systems.
• One (1) year implementing complex MapReduce analytics.
• One (1) year implementing code interacting with Cloud Distributed Coordination Frameworks.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline from an accredited college or university, plus eight (8) years of Software Engineering experience, including at least two (2) years supporting Big Data Cloud technologies and/or Distributed Computing.

Education/Experience Substitutions:

• Four (4) additional years of Cloud Software Engineering experience on similar Big Data projects may substitute for a bachelor's degree.
• A master's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline may substitute for two (2) years of experience.
• A Cloudera Certified Hadoop Developer certification may substitute for one (1) year of Cloud experience.

Clearance Requirement:

• Must possess an active TS SCI with appropriate Polygraph to be considered for this role
