Position Summary
Scientific Games is a global leader in lottery games, sports betting and technology. This Software Engineering position is part of the lottery division engineering team. You will help enable funding for public causes and work with professional engineers on small teams reporting to a Software Development Manager.
Responsibilities
- Design, code, test, and debug source code and scripts.
- Participate in solution discussions and contribute to technical designs based on requirements.
- Engage in requirements gathering for development projects.
- Conduct code reviews and follow best development practices.
- Support production lottery systems when issues arise.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues collaboratively with team members.
- Estimate effort for changes and new features.
- Assist with state-specific background checks as required.
- Travel up to 5% of the time.
Required Qualifications
- BS in Computer Science (or equivalent experience).
- 3-7 years of programming experience, preferably in transaction processing or large-scale systems.
- Procedural application development in C on Linux.
- Understanding of software development principles, debugging techniques, and SQL Server databases.
- Proficiency in shared memory, memory mapping, data structures, and binary data handling.
- Shell scripting (BASH) and Unix tools (awk, sed, tail, head, grep, etc.).
- Experience with version control systems such as TFS and GIT.
- Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to learn new technologies rapidly.
Desirable Qualifications
- JSON/XML parsing.
- Multi-threaded development concepts.
- System V IPC.
- OpenSSL encryption/decryption.
- Proc SQL or ANSI SQL.
- PostgreSQL or SQL Server experience.
- TCP/IP socket programming with proprietary protocols.
- RESTful service integration in C/C++.
- Ruby or other scripting language experience.
- Experience in the lottery industry.
