Job summary

C Spire is offering a Summer 2026 Software Development Intern program at our Ridgeland, MS corporate office. You will work with our Web, Mobile, Middleware, and Data Engineering teams to design, build, and maintain applications powering our digital transformation across multiple environments.

The internship provides hands-on experience across web, iOS/Android, and backend systems, with exposure to Java/Scala and data technologies.

Qualifications

• Active enrollment in an accredited college or university as a junior, senior, or graduate student in good standing.
• Pursuit of a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
• Successful completion of at least one course in an object‑oriented programming language (Java preferred).
• Successful completion of at least 12 credit hours in computer technology or math‑related coursework.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to the designated department while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
• Perform assignments given by your Manager with accuracy and timeliness.
• Collaborate in a fast‑paced team environment, communicating effectively across departments.
• Use Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to support tasks and reporting.
• Participate in activities with other interns in the summer program.

As a Software Development Intern, you will gain hands‑on experience working with one of our software development teams. You will help design, build, and maintain applications that power C Spire’s digital transformation across web, mobile, middleware, and data environments. This position is for a Summer Internship in 2026, located at our Corporate office in Ridgeland, MS.

Web Applications Team

• Support the team in developing and managing the cspire.com website and sub-properties.
• Assist with initiatives to transform the website into the primary channel for sales, support, and self‑service.
• Learn modern frameworks and practices for responsive, customer‑focused web development.

Mobile Applications Team

• Work alongside developers maintaining iOS and Android applications.
• Gain hands‑on experience with languages such as Swift, Java, Kotlin, and Objective‑C.
• Support projects that help thousands of customers manage accounts and access healthcare through mobile apps.

Middleware and Backend Systems Team

• Contribute to the design and maintenance of Java and Scala microservices.
• Assist with systems processing billions of API calls per year.
• Learn how core backend systems power business operations and customer interactions.

Data Engineering Team

• Support the design and maintenance of Oracle and SQL Server databases.
• Learn how data warehouses and big data environments are used for reporting and analytics.
• Gain exposure to managing the full data lifecycle from conception to consumption.

General Intern Responsibilities

• Provide support to the designated department while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Interns must be able to adapt and perform in a rapidly changing work environment. Must be able to sit for long periods of time and use a computer keyboard and/or mouse while viewing a computer screen.
