About The Role

The Sr. Associate Software Developer at McKesson plays a pivotal role in advancing healthcare technology through the development and integration of retinal clinical and administrative data systems. This position involves working with complex ophthalmology datasets, clinical images, and data models to support research and real-world evidence studies. The ideal candidate will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to extract, process, and analyze ophthalmic data, ensuring system improvements are effectively implemented to enhance operational efficiency.

The role is primarily remote, offering flexibility to work from any location within the United States, with an expectation of approximately 15% travel for domestic or international meetings and conferences. The position requires a combination of technical expertise, clinical knowledge, and data science skills to develop innovative solutions that support retinal health research and product development.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will hold a Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Vision, Computer Science, or a related field, with at least three (3) years of experience working in research settings, preparing data for studies, or similar roles. Demonstrated expertise in ophthalmology-specific electronic medical records, imaging, and data management is essential.

Applicants must have at least one (1) year of proven experience in each of the following areas:

• Retinal and ophthalmology imaging, including OCT, fluorescein angiography, and wide-field imaging, with proficiency in linking electronic medical records with practice management and image data.
• Technical skills in Python, cloud computing, and working with medical images from leading ophthalmology equipment manufacturers such as Carl Zeiss, Heidelberg Engineering, Topcon, Nikon/Optos.
• Data science and coding, including writing performant SQL queries, troubleshooting, and optimizing dataset preparation in clinical environments.
• Building and managing data science pipelines in AWS cloud environments, including developing RPA applications and working with tools like VS Code, Jupyter Lab, and Veracode security tools.
• Advanced statistical analysis, data modeling, and working with ophthalmology image datasets for segmentation, volumetric rendering, and lesion detection.

Additional experience in linking proprietary imaging formats, developing computer vision models for layer segmentation, object detection, and extracting data programmatically from ophthalmic imaging sources is required. Strong understanding of clinical research methods and experience in building retinal drug-switch matrices, patient care analyses, and longitudinal data records are highly desirable.

• Working with retinal clinical and administrative data to build comprehensive datasets and data models aligned with research and product development needs.
• Extracting and integrating clinical and imaging data from various sources, including APIs, proprietary binary formats, and standard medical images.
• Testing data validity and ensuring accuracy for use in statistical modeling, machine learning, and computer vision applications.
• Collaborating with clinical researchers, data scientists, and product teams to prepare datasets for research studies, real-world evidence projects, and product enhancements.
• Developing and optimizing SQL queries for clinical and administrative datasets, troubleshooting query issues, and ensuring data security and privacy compliance.
• Building data science pipelines within AWS cloud environments, including parsing ophthalmology images, linking records, and processing PHI.
• Creating RPA applications to automate repetitive tasks, improve data processing efficiency, and ensure data integrity.
• Performing advanced statistical analyses on ophthalmic datasets, including volumetric measurements, lesion detection, and segmentation tasks.
• Ensuring system improvements are successfully implemented and monitored to increase operational efficiency and data quality.
