Job summary

RCT Systems in Reston, VA is seeking a Senior Software Developer-SME to support a 200+ FTE program with Web-based applications. You will work with a large team of developers, DevOPS, security engineers, systems engineers, and data engineers on a full stack role with backend focus.

After a one-year onboarding period, you will be included in an on-call, one week duty rotation to address system issues after hours. Core hours are 9 AM to 3 PM, five days a week, within a 40-hour work week.

Qualifications

• Active TS/SCI with Polygraph is required.
• BS degree in IT or related field, and/or relevant work experience.
• Strong Java programming skills and Java persistence API experience for complex database schemas.
• Java web services experience (JAX/WS).
• Strong Linux (CLI) knowledge.
• Experience with Agile workflows and Spring (Boot).

Responsibilities

• Contribute primarily on backend web services within a large multi-discipline team.
• Collaborate with DevOPS, security, systems, and data engineers on a unified stack.
• Participate in on-call duty rotation after onboarding and maintain system reliability.
• Follow Agile processes and deliver within a 40-hour work week.

Job description

RCT is seeking a Senior Software Developer-SME for a 200+ FTE technical development program supporting the Sponsor’s Web-based applications. The Software Developer will work with a large team of developers, DevOPS engineers, security engineers, systems engineers, and data engineers. The developer will be full stack knowledgeable, but will likely be focused on technical backend work (e.g., web services).

The candidate must have 6-10 years of demonstrable developer experience with a backend emphasis. Additionally, after a one-year onboarding period, the candidate will be required to be included in an on-call, one week duty rotation that will require them to address any system issues that occur after normal working hours.

Core hours are from 9 AM to 3 PM daily, five days per week, with a forty-hour work week.

Required Qualifications

• Active TS/SCI with Polygraph is required.
• BS degree in a related information technology discipline, and/or relevant work experience is required
• Strong Java programming skills / Java persistence API experience for complex database schemas
• Java web services experience (JAX/WS)
• Strong understanding, knowledge of Linux (CLI)
• Experience in working on teams utilizing Agile workflows and processes
• Working knowledge of the Spring frameworks/Boot

Desired Qualifications

• Experience with development in Cloud-based environments (e.g., AWS), Java integration with AWS services
• Databases: Oracle, Oracle RDS
• Frameworks: Vue.js, Bootstrap/Vuetify
• Additional programming/scripting languages:
  • Python, JavaScript, Bash, XML, JSON, YAML, SQL and PL/SQL
• Software: - GitHub / Git, ELK (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana), Jenkins, Puppet, NAGIOS
