Job summary

Athene seeks motivated interns for hands-on development projects at our West Des Moines office. You will contribute to developing and testing applications, collaborating with a team, and documenting your work to deliver value to customers and the industry.

The program emphasizes professional development, networking, and community involvement with internships running mid-May to early August. Enrollment is required for Fall 2027.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in CS/IT or related field and able to commit to internship period.
• Ability to interpret detailed project specifications and translate into code.
• Basic understanding of SDLC processes and project management concepts.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and work with minimal supervision.
• Process and detail oriented with strong problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Provides accurate estimates for assigned unit of development.
• Resolves routine programming issues.
• Documents code and creates design documentation with guidance from senior members.
• Develops small to medium-size applications.
• Performs application testing to meet user requirements.
• Assists project managers in defining system scope and objectives.
• Follows internal policies, standards, controls and metrics.

• Internships will run from mid-May to early August.
• Interviews and hiring decisions expect to be completed prior to mid-November, with some being completed as early as late September.
• These are in‑office internships onsite at our West Des Moines located at 7700 Mills Civic Parkway.

What you will do

• Provides accurate estimates for assigned unit of development.
• Demonstrates ability to resolve routine programming issues.
• Documents own code and produces technical design documentation with guidance from senior members.
• Develops small to medium-size applications.
• Performs application testing to assure delivery meets the user’s requirements.
• Assists project managers in conducting fact‑findings, which will result in the formulation and definition of the system scope and objectives for developing or modifying information software applications.
• Follows and adheres of internal policies and procedures (standards, controls and metrics).
• Basic understanding of coding best practices.

Qualifications and Experience

• Currently enrolled in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Ability to interpret detailed project specifications and business requirements to develop program logic and code.
• Demonstrates basic understanding of Project Management and SDLC processes.
• Ability to prioritize tasks within the project and work with minimal supervision or guidance.
• Process and detail oriented with the ability to grasp complex business workflows and processes.
• Experience in the financial services industry is a plus.
• C#, .Net MVC, Angular, AWS/Azure cloud experience a plus

Bonus Experience (Not Required)

• Familiarity with artificial intelligence concepts, generative AI, machine learning, or large language models.
• Experience using AI‑assisted development tools—such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar tools—or working with AI services and APIs, such as Azure AI, AWS AI/ML services, or OpenAI APIs.
