Job summary

The Research Foundation for SUNY in Albany, NY seeks a Software Developer to design, develop, and maintain web applications using Java, JavaScript, JQuery, JSON, SQL, and UNIX scripts. This full-time, on-site role offers a salary range of $75,000 to $97,000 and requires a bachelor’s degree plus 2 years of web development experience;

Qualifications

• The candidate must have a bachelor's degree in CS, web development, or equivalent experience.
• 2 years of professional web development experience with a strong portfolio.
• Proficiency in Java, JavaScript, JQuery, JSON, SQL, and UNIX scripts with relevant frameworks.
• Practical experience with AI/ML concepts and model integration for web apps.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and debugging skills.
• Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills; able to work cross-functionally.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and priorities.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain responsive web applications using Java, JavaScript, JQuery, JSON, SQL, and UNIX scripts.
• Provide day-to-day support and advancement of NY Creates web applications.
• Troubleshoot and debug complex issues across multiple web apps and environments.
• Stay current with emerging web tech and AI/ML trends to improve platforms and processes.
• Assist IT in responding to user accounts and help desk requests.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description

Position Summary, Software Developer

Join NY Creates as a Software Developer and help build the next generation of web-based solutions. You'll develop impactful applications, solve complex technical challenges, and leverage emerging technologies, including AI/ML, to drive innovation.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain responsive and high-performance web applications using Java, JavaScript, JQuery, JSON, SQL, and UNIX command scripts, and other modern front-end technologies.
• Day to day support and advancement of the NY Creates web applications as necessary.
• Independently troubleshoot and debug complex issues across various web applications and environments.
• Stay current with emerging web technologies and AI/ML trends, applying new knowledge to continuously improve our platforms and processes.
• Participate in IT team response to user account requests and system issues received through Help Desk Ticket System.
• Other reasonable duties assigned.

This position is not open to contract work or sponsorship. This position is onsite in Albany, NY only and not open to remote work.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications, Software Developer

• The candidate must have a bachelor's degree in computer science, web development, or equivalent experience.
• 2 years of professional web development experience, demonstrating a strong portfolio of successful projects.
• Proficiency in Java, JavaScript, JQuery, JSON, SQL, and UNIX command scripts, and experience with relevant web frameworks and libraries.
• Practical experience and solid understanding of AI/ML concepts, including model integration, data processing for AI applications, and how to apply AI to solve complex problems within a web context.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and debugging skills.
• Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, able to articulate technical concepts and work effectively within cross-functional teams.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.

Preferred Qualifications, Software Developer

• Research and Semiconductor industry experience is preferred. Familiarity with IBM SiView suite and/or IBM WebSphere is desired.

This position is contingent on the satisfactory completion of a background check; this position may require annual background checks.
