Cooperstown Central School District is seeking an experienced Varsity Softball Head Coach to lead our high school program and instill leadership, discipline, and competitive excellence in student-athletes.

The role focuses on skill development, strategic game planning, and promoting academic success while maintaining strong relationships with players, parents, and staff.

Qualifications

• Completion or willingness to complete NYSED coaching certification requirements.
• CPR and First Aid Certification required.
• DASA Training is required or pending.
• Concussion Management Certification preferred.
• SAVE Training required.
• NYSED fingerprint clearance.

Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct high-level practices emphasizing skill development and teamwork.
• Develop and implement game plans and lead during the season.
• Teach and reinforce softball techniques at all levels.
• Promote sportsmanship, academics, and leadership among athletes.
• Supervise athletes during practices, games, and team activities.
• Collaborate with JV/Modified coaches for cohesive program philosophy.
• Maintain equipment, uniforms, and team records.
• Communicate with players, parents, administration, and athletic department.
• Ensure compliance with NYSPHSAA, Section III, and district policies.

Job Title: Varsity Softball Head Coach

Position Overview:

Cooperstown Central School is seeking an experienced and dedicated Varsity Softball Head Coach to lead our high school softball program. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, a commitment to excellence, and a passion for mentoring student-athletes. This position plays a critical role in shaping a competitive, respectful, and team-oriented program that reflects the values of Cooperstown athletics.

Responsibilities:

Plan and conduct high-level practices that emphasize skill development, strategy, and teamwork

Develop and implement game plans, manage in-game decisions, and lead the team throughout the season

Teach and reinforce fundamental and advanced softball techniques

Promote sportsmanship, character, academic success, and leadership among student-athletes

Supervise athletes during all practices, games, and team-related activities

Collaborate with JV and Modified coaches to maintain a cohesive program philosophy

Maintain equipment, uniforms, and team records

Communicate effectively with players, parents, administration, and the athletic department

Ensure compliance with all NYSPHSAA, Section III, and district regulations and policies

Qualifications:

Required:

Completion or willingness to complete all NYSED coaching certification requirements, including:

Fingerprint clearance through NYSED

Preferred:

Previous head or assistant coaching experience at the varsity or collegiate level

Strong knowledge of softball rules, strategies, and advanced techniques

Proven leadership and organizational skills

Ability to mentor student-athletes on and off the field

Experience coordinating with athletic departments and managing team operations
