Job summary

Cooperstown Central School District is seeking a Junior Varsity Softball Head Coach for Cooperstown Jr Sr High School to lead the JV program, develop players, and prepare them for varsity competition.

The coach will design developmentally appropriate practices, teach fundamentals, mentor student-athletes, handle game-day prep and travel, and coordinate with the Varsity Head Coach to align the program with district policies. Strong communication with players, parents, and staff is essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Must complete NYSED coaching certifications including CPR/First Aid, DASA, concussion management, SAVE, and fingerprint clearance.

Responsibilities

• Plan and lead developmentally appropriate practices and training sessions.
• Teach core softball fundamentals, strategies, and game awareness.
• Provide mentorship, motivation, and leadership to student-athletes.
• Manage game-day preparation, lineups, and in-game decisions.
• Supervise student-athletes during travel and team activities.
• Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and staff.
• Coordinate with Varsity Head Coach to ensure program alignment.
• Maintain equipment, records, and compliance with district and NYSPHSAA policies.

Job Title: Junior Varsity (JV) Softball Head Coach

Position Overview

Cooperstown Central School is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Junior Varsity (JV) Softball Head Coach to lead and manage the JV softball team. The successful candidate will be responsible for fostering player development, promoting teamwork and sportsmanship, and preparing student-athletes to transition successfully to the varsity level. This position supports the overall mission of the Cooperstown softball program and works closely with the Varsity Head Coach and athletic department.

Responsibilities

• Plan and lead structured, developmentally appropriate practices and training sessions
• Teach and reinforce core softball fundamentals, strategies, and game awareness
• Provide mentorship, motivation, and leadership to student-athletes
• Manage game-day preparation, lineups, and in-game decision-making
• Supervise student-athletes during all team activities, including travel
• Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and school staff
• Coordinate with the Varsity Head Coach to ensure alignment across the softball program
• Maintain team equipment, records, and compliance with district and NYSPHSAA policies

Qualifications

• Required:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Completion or willingness to complete all NYSED coaching certification requirements, including:
    • CPR and First Aid Certification
    • DASA Training
    • Concussion Management Certification
    • SAVE Training
    • Fingerprint clearance through NYSED
• Preferred:
  • Previous coaching experience in softball or working with high school athletes
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills
  • Understanding of JV-level player development and progression toward varsity-level expectations
