Job summary

Cooperstown Central School District is seeking a committed Modified Softball Head Coach to lead the middle school program at Cooperstown Jr Sr High School. The role focuses on teaching fundamental softball skills, promoting sportsmanship and teamwork, and developing young athletes in a positive environment.

The coach will plan practices, supervise student-athletes, and ensure safety and compliance with NYSPHSAA rules.

• NYSED coaching certification completion or willingness
• CPR and First Aid Certification
• DASA Training
• Concussion Management Certification
• Fingerprint clearance through NYSED

Responsibilities

• Plan and lead skill-appropriate practices and game strategies
• Teach the fundamentals of softball including throwing, catching, hitting, base running, and fielding
• Emphasize player development, safety, and positive team culture
• Supervise student-athletes during all practices, games, and transportation
• Communicate effectively with players, families, and school staff
• Ensure compliance with all district, league, and NYSPHSAA rules and safety guidelines
• Collaborate with JV and Varsity coaching staff to support long-term player development
• Manage team equipment and maintain accurate attendance and records

Cooperstown Central School is seeking a committed and enthusiastic Modified Softball Head Coach to lead our middle school-level softball program. The ideal candidate will be passionate about developing young athletes, teaching the fundamentals of the game, and promoting sportsmanship and teamwork in a positive, age-appropriate environment.

Responsibilities:

Plan and lead skill-appropriate practices and game strategies

Teach the fundamentals of softball including throwing, catching, hitting, base running, and fielding

Supervise student-athletes during all practices, games, and transportation

Communicate effectively with players, families, and school staff

Qualifications:

Required:

Completion or willingness to complete all NYSED coaching certification requirements, including:

CPR and First Aid Certification

DASA Training

Concussion Management Certification

SAVE Training

Fingerprint clearance through NYSED

Preferred:

Coaching experience at the youth or school level, particularly in softball

Strong communication and leadership skills

Knowledge of softball rules, techniques, and teaching methods for middle school athletes

Ability to serve as a positive role model and mentor to student-athletes
