Job summary

The Technical College of the Lowcountry seeks a Sociology instructor to teach courses within all academic programs. Responsibilities include hands-on and theory-based instruction, classroom management, and related administrative duties such as reports and lesson plan development.

Master’s Degree in Sociology or related field is required (or 18 graduate hours in Sociology). Prior post-secondary teaching experience is preferred.

• Prior post-secondary teaching experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Teach sociology courses with hands-on and theoretical components, manage classroom activities, and handle related admin tasks (reports, syllabi, lesson plans).
• Assess student learning and maintain attendance, grades, and progress records.
• Develop instructional materials for course approval and collaborate with tutoring and retention teams to support student success.
• Prepare division reports for planning and accreditation inputs.
• Attend professional meetings and represent the College positively with external groups.

Job Purpose:

Teach Sociology courses to students in all academic programs at the Technical College of the Lowcountry.

Job Functions:

Teaching Responsibilities

• Instruction including hands on and theory, classroom management, and administrative tasks that may include reports, syllabus and lesson plan development.
• Assess the accomplishment of students on a regular basis.
• Maintain records of student attendance, grades, and progress.

Instructional Development

• Recommend for approval adequate instructional materials for course.
• Work with other areas of the college such as Tutoring, Retention, etc. to help ensure student success.
• Prepare reports in cooperation with Division Dean for input in planning/reporting system and/or for submission to the accrediting body of the College or program.

Professional Development

• Attend relevant professional meetings.
• Represent the College positively in interactions with the community and with professional and academic groups at local, state, and national levels.

Master's Degree in Sociology or Master's Degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in Sociology/Social Science or closely related field required.

Prior post-secondary teaching experience preferred.
