Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) seeks a qualified social worker to serve as a Forensic Interviewer at the Children’s Advocacy Center. You will conduct forensic interviews with children believed to be victims of abuse or witnesses to crimes and support families through the process.

The role includes coordinating multidisciplinary case staffing, completing psychosocial assessments, and assisting with discharge planning and community referrals.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in social work or related field.
  • Licensed Social Worker is required.
  • Experience with forensic interviewing or willingness to obtain within 90 days.

Job Summary

Provision of specialized psychosocial services to inpatients and outpatients and their families served by CAMC. Includes: Counseling, crisis intervention, implementation and coordination of services for discharge plan, referrals, and other professional services as may be required.

Responsibilities
  • Receive referrals from case coordinators, nursing, and physicians to coordinate and implement the discharge plan as needed.
  • Coordinate out of home placements with patient/family/and other facilities.
  • Assist patients and families in understanding and making constructive use of patient care services and community resources (lodging, parking, meals, transportation, prescriptions, government entitlement program referrals, etc.).
  • Identify socioeconomic conditions relevant to the health status of patients and stays current in knowledge of various program eligibility guidelines.
  • Complete required psycho-social assessments for ESRD, Home Training, pre and post kidney transplant, and rehab patients. Complete other psycho-social assessments as appropriate or needed.
  • Assist patients and families with psycho-social adjustment to illness or injury, including: crisis intervention, bereavement issues regarding loss, psycho-social support, support groups, establish treatment plans, etc.
  • Respond to referrals for patients and families with complex issues and needs including:
  • Respond to educational needs of the staff and community, specifically related to social work issues such as advance directives, teen pregnancy, abuse/neglect issues, etc.
  • Education to patient/family/community on advance directives.
  • Assistance to patient and family with completion of advance directives, organ donation, etc.
  • Procure and manage community donations for ESRD, Baptist Ministries, and Good Samaritan Fund, etc.
  • Participate on hospital committees as needed, that are necessary and appropriate such as Ethics, Quality Improvement Councils, Medical Audit, Patient Care, etc.
  • Provide psycho-social support to CAMC employees for ongoing therapeutic intervention.
  • Assist in facilitation of communication to patient, family, police, employer, and others as necessary and appropriate.
  • Works as an integral part of the interdisciplinary team of assigned area.
  • Document all action done for or with patient/family in Medical Records.
  • This position will be assigned specifically to the Children’s Advocacy Center at CAMC Women & Children’s Division and will serve primarily as a Forensic Interviewer. In that capacity, the social worker will be responsible for conducting forensic interviews with children believed to be victims of child abuse or a witness to crimes and other responsibilities directly related.
  • In addition to the educational and experience requirements outlined in the job description, applicants must have successfully completed a nationally recognized forensic interviewing course or must obtain such within 90 days of hiring. Experience with multi-disciplinary teams, community-based response to allegations of child abuse and neglect are required.
  • Responsibilities include coordinating and conducting forensic interviews of children and adolescents alleging child abuse; participating in pre/post interview multidisciplinary case staffing; preparing written reports of interviews. The Forensic Interviewer will participate on our local multidisciplinary team, administer grant-required tasks, and participate in peer review/supervision and assist with other duties as assigned.

The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department’s identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.
