Job description

The Medical College of Wisconsin Department of Surgery, Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery (TACS) is seeking three clinically licensed social workers to join our multidisciplinary clinic, the Milwaukee Trauma Recovery Center (MKE TRC). The position offers evidence‑based, culturally responsive care to survivors of violence, including adults, children, and families. The social worker will work alongside psychologists, other social workers, a psychiatrist, and community stakeholders.

Primary Responsibilities

• Conduct clinical intakes using a trauma‑informed approach, assessing presenting problems, psychosocial history, mental status exam, and DSM‑5 diagnosis.
• Provide short‑term, trauma‑informed individual and group psychotherapy and comprehensive case management.
• Coordinate care with other health care providers and refer clients to community services as appropriate.
• Maintain a caseload of complex clients with histories of trauma, substance abuse, and concurrent medical problems.
• Utilize knowledge of mental health, medical, and community resources in Milwaukee; stay familiar with new programs.
• Develop comprehensive treatment and service plans integrating a range of human service resources.
• Provide clinical supervision to interns, participate in in‑service trainings, case conferences, and community presentations.
• Assist with program development, including implementation of measurement‑guided mental health treatment.
• Maintain client records in compliance with Wisconsin requirements; record data in client charts.
• Meet productivity standards, complete forms and documentation in a timely manner.
• Engage in all required trainings for the TRC, assist with quality improvement, and collect data for program evaluation.
• Attend staff meetings and other assigned meetings, and perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Education: MSW or DSW. Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis.
• Licensure: Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Wisconsin (APSW with Wisconsin provider status or certification; pass ASWB Clinical Exam).
• Experience: Minimum 3 years of clinical experience; preference for 3,000 hours post‑bachelor’s supervised experience in trauma‑related disorders and distress.
• Evidence‑based care for trauma, including prolonged exposure therapy, cognitive processing therapy, etc.

Physical Requirements

Work occasionally requires lifting moderate weight, standing, and walking continuously.

Work Environment

Occasional exposure to dust, noise, temperature changes, or contact with water or other liquids. Work is performed in an environmentally controlled setting.

Sensory Acuity

Ability to detect and translate speech or other communication. May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects.
