Job summary

Spence-Chapin, a NYC-based adoption and family services organization, seeks a Social Worker for Birth Parent Services. The role involves counseling birth parents, coordinating hospital visits, facilitating infant placement, and linking families with community supports.

The position is in-person with a salary range of $62,000-$71,000 depending on experience. Strong organizational and written communication skills are essential for successful collaboration across departments.

Qualifications

• MSW from an accredited school of social work or related degree is required.
• Minimum of two years MSW experience or related social service experience.
• Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Experience in adoption and/or pregnancy counseling is preferred; at least one-year counseling.
• Spanish-speaking a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide options counseling to pregnant and postpartum birth parents considering adoption for their newborns and young children.
• Visit clients in hospital and at home as needed.
• Represent the agency at hospitals and discharge babies to the interim care program.
• Make referrals to resources outside the agency based on assessed needs.
• Gather bio-psycho-social background information and write histories.
• Maintain up-to-date case notes in the client database.
