Job summary

Southern Connecticut State University is seeking an Assistant Director of Practicum Education in Social Work to lead practicum coordination for BSW, MSW, and DSW students across CT. The role focuses on developing placement opportunities, maintaining data accuracy, and fostering strong agency partnerships.

The position emphasizes collaboration with faculty, staff and students, ensuring CSWE standards, and delivering orientations and trainings throughout the academic year.

Qualifications

• MSW from a CSWE-accredited social work program.
• Licensed Masters of Social Work (LMSW) or equivalent licensure from another state.
• Three (3) years of post MSW experience delivering practicum education services with higher education institutions and providers of health and behavioral health.
• Proficiency with using software to build databases to manage student and agency data and generate reports.
• Experience working with diverse populations.
• Experience with creating and sustaining community partnerships.
• Strong interpersonal skills, effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with community members, SCSU administration, faculty, staff and students.

Responsibilities

• Plan for, recruit, screen, develop and maintain quality practicum placement opportunities in Connecticut with input from faculty, students, employers and community members.
• Coordinate practicum placements for BSW, MSW and DSW students through interviews with students, agency preceptors, and agency partners.
• Maintain practicum placement information, data accuracy, and evaluations across platforms such as Core Elms, Qualtrics, TEAMS, Banner, and Navigate.
• Facilitate relationship building with community agencies and students by organizing job fairs, resume workshops, and trainings.
• Assist with revising policies and practicum procedures to ensure CSWE accreditation standards.
• Support faculty, practicum instructors, supervisors and students in problem-solving practicum issues.
• Create and maintain accurate practicum data and assign students to courses, coordinating with the registrar.
• Assist with planning and delivery of orientations to students and new practicum instructors; maintain communication and provide support throughout the year.
• Participate in teaching Seminar in Practicum Instruction to new practicum instructors.
• Collect site visit practicum reports each semester and analyze data to inform program delivery and accreditation compliance.
• Participate in department meetings and maintain background check verifications for practicum students.
• Coordinate with staff to maintain agency affiliation agreements and ensure CSWE standards compliance.
• Support the use of the employment-as-internship process and maintain records.
• Maintain current data on student status in practicum placements to ensure CSWE standards compliance.
• Plan and deliver practicum education orientation to BSW and MSW students.
• Communicate and provide support to students, agency supervisors, and seminar faculty.
• Plan programming to introduce current students to social work career options.
• May supervise student workers or graduate assistants and cover the department in absence of the Associate Director.
