Job Description

Alburgh Community & Education Center is seeking a Middle School Social Studies Teacher, Long-Term Substitute.

Salary is in accordance with the current Master Agreement and salary schedule $50,650 - $96,550, based upon education and experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Instructing students in 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade in Social Studies using the approved curriculum.


• Planning and leading instruction in intervention to support students who need additional or differentiated instruction in reading, writing, vocabulary, early literacy and other aspects of Social Studies.


• Committed to collaborating with colleagues, including active participation in Professional Learning Communities, EST, and all staff initiatives.


• Engages in cycles of data-driven instruction to inform instructional planning and personalize instruction to student needs.


• Develops lesson plans and instructional materials as needed to carry out instruction per the curriculum and students' individual needs.


• Partners with all students and families through frequent communication.


• Engages with families on academic and behavioral goals and transparently share student progress so that both parents and teachers own each child's successes and challenges.


• Utilizes a repertoire of all learning strategies appropriate for students' ages and skill levels. This includes social, emotional, and behavioral needs and approaches such as Universal Design for Learners


• Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment. This includes following the school's positive approach to intervention for behavior and all policies and procedures related to student behavior and classroom management.


• Keeps appropriate records on students' academic growth and fulfills all requirements in terms of reporting progress toward learning targets


• Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the school day, such as lunch and recess duties, per the Master Agreement


• Supervises all paraprofessionals, behavior interventionists or other support staff who work with students in the classroom.


• Participates in all faculty committees, inservice meetings, conference days and other staff and student activities per the Master Agreement.


• Uses technologies in the teaching and learning process and follows all policies and procedures related to technology use.


• Keeps informed of and comply with state, town and school regulations and policies for classroom health and safety


• Other tasks as assigned by the building principal

Supervision Received:

• Reports to and evaluated by the Principal.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and professional expectations satisfactorily, in addition to the following:

Education and Experience

• Experience teaching Social Studies at the Middle School Level.


• Bachelor’s degree or higher with proper teacher licensure.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively. Demonstrated broad knowledge of academic subject matter being taught to students desired.

Computer Skills and Experience

Good basic computer skills and experience with word processing programs required. Experience with Microsoft Office preferred.

Reasoning Ability/Mental Requirements

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Communication & Interpersonal Skills

Ability to communicate courteously, efficiently and effectively with a variety of individuals, including student, faculty, administrations, parents, and representatives of outside organizations. Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with peers, subordinates, supervisors, parents, and outside agencies. Ability to show patience, respect and compassion in working with students. Ability to effectively resolve conflicts and handle stress.

Employee must also be able to participate in required meetings and/or trainings that are held outside of the normal workday or work hours per the Master Agreement.

Physical Demands Include: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and significant fine finger dexterity. Combination of sitting, walking, and standing.
