Job summary

The Veterans Health Administration is seeking a Social Services Assistant to support health care management officials by analyzing, evaluating, advising and coordinating health care delivery systems and operations related to SAMS processes.

The role involves advising on operational policies, coordinating with supervisors, and ensuring alignment with administrative functions while supporting Veterans and their families at end of life.

Qualifications

• Experience leading group activities in community or training settings.
• Experience as a counselor in youth programs or camps.
• Experience as an instructor in job-skills training.
• Ability to lead and train a work crew.
• Experience as a group activities leader or dorm supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Advises Veterans and Next of Kin (NOK) of burial benefits.
• Assists prearranging burial, interment or cremation as desired.
• Informs surviving relatives about burial benefits and other VA supports.
• Reviews daily death notifications and submits death certificates to the designated Funeral Director and County Registrar.
• Maintains and monitors performance measure requirements for VHA and facility leadership.
• Collaborates with Fiscal to financially support SAMS operations.
• Assesses budget needs, submits requests and manages the program budget.
• Informs Veteran, caregiver and NOK of available supportive services within the facility.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
