Job summary

The University of New Mexico is seeking a Social Hour Coordinator (Student Intermediate Level) in the Global Education Office to lead social events for international students and scholars on the Main Albuquerque campus. The role requires energy, motivation, and strong organizational skills to manage bi-weekly Social Hour events, the online calendar, and festival planning.

Under GEO supervision, you will plan cultural trips, coordinate performances, and handle logistics such as venues and vendor

Qualifications

  • Must have a U.S. driver's license and at least 12 months of driving experience.
  • Excellent customer service and professional communication both verbal and written.
  • Strong organizational and self-starter abilities for event planning.
  • Ability to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends as required.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate bi-weekly Social Hour events and maintain the online event calendar.
  • Coordinate performances for the UNM International Festival and cultural trips.
  • Handle event logistics such as reserving venues, obtaining estimates, and communicating with vendors.
  • Assist with driving GEO van and chaperone overnight trips as needed.

Title: Social Hour Coordinator

Pay: $15.00 Hourly

Position Summary

To serve as the International Student Activities Coordinator for the Global Education Office (GEO). This person will be the primary point of contact for social events and activities for international students and scholars. This person should be energetic, motivated, self-starter, outgoing and highly organized.

Under the supervision of a GEO staff member, this position will be responsible for coordinating social events for international students and scholars including bi-weekly Social Hour events, upkeep of the online event calendar, coordinate performances for the annual UNM International Festival, plan and report on various cultural trips throughout the year.

Tasks include driving the GEO van and co-planning and chaperoning overnight trips, regular event preparation activities such as reserving venues, getting estimates and communicating with service providers in a timely manner, shopping and running errands off campus for the purpose of set-up and take-down of various programs to be held both on and off campus.

The student must enjoy working with a diverse international community; international experience is a plus but not required.

Position Requirements
  • Must have a U.S. driver’slicense and US driving experience of at least 12 months.
  • Reliable, consistent, adaptableand proactive to ensure proper follow-up/ follow-through in event planningand implementation.
  • Outstanding customerservice.
  • Ability to communicate effectivelyand professionally, both orally and in writing.
  • Must be an organized,self-starter that can work independently with limited supervision.
  • Open-minded and flexible,capable of creating an inclusive and safe environment for students ofdiverse backgrounds.
  • Must maintain a regular workschedule as much as permissible by program operations.
  • Comfortable with publicspeaking.
  • Must be available to workearly mornings, evenings, and weekends as required by program operations.
  • Position requires handling of average-weight objectsup to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours perday.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience managing adigital calendar and creating flyers on Canva.
  • Ability to work on abudget and track spending for student events (includes receipt handling,checking rates, inquiring about incentives, etc.).
  • Proficiency in MicrosoftWord, PowerPoint and Excel (Photoshop and Banner experience a plus).
  • Familiarity with the UNMStudent Fee Review Board, a plus.
  • Knowledge of a secondlanguage is preferred.
  • Reliable transportationrecommended.
