Responsibilities

  • Provide direct SEL support to students, including coping strategies and self-regulation.
  • Work with students individually or in small groups to develop SEL skills.

  • Support teachers and staff by reinforcing positive behavior and a safe environment.
  • Act as first responder in crises, with immediate intervention and notification.
  • Collaborate with counselors, social workers, and teachers to create student support plans.

  • Facilitate communication between students, families and staff regarding SEL concerns.
  • Assist with data entry, report prep, and document management.

JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Paraprofessional
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 48 hours of college credit or an AA degree.
  • Hold or be eligible to obtain certification as a Substitute Teacher in accordance with the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board Substitute Teacher Certification.
  • Experience working with students in an educational or counseling setting is preferred.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in office software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Suite) and general clerical skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive student information.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to de-escalate conflicts.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and families.

REPORTS TO: Principal or Designee

JOB GOAL: The SEL Paraprofessional will provide comprehensive student and administrative support, enhancing the well-being of students while ensuring efficient school operations. This position is designed to foster a positive school climate, support students' social-emotional needs, and contribute to the smooth functioning of the school.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Paraprofessional Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct social-emotional support to students, assisting with coping strategies, self- regulation, and conflict resolution.
  • Work with students individually or in small groups to develop social-emotional skills and resilience.
  • Assist in implementing Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) interventions related to student well-being.
  • Support teachers and staff by reinforcing positive behavior strategies and fostering a safe learning environment.
  • Act as a first responder in crisis situations, providing immediate intervention and notifying appropriate personnel.
  • Collaborate with counselors, social workers, and teachers to create and implement student support plans.
  • Support the development and execution of SEL initiatives, activities, and programs within the school.
  • Facilitate communication between students, families, and staff regarding social-emotional concerns.
  • Assist with data entry, report preparation, and document management.
  • Ensure confidentiality and compliance with school policies regarding student information and records.
  • Provide assistance during school events, meetings, and special projects as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned to support school operations and student well-being.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Length of contract to be determined by the Board of Trustees.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation.
