Position Summary

The Institute for Global Health and Infectious Diseases is seeking a Social/Clinical Research Assistant (Project Assistant) to support a research study focused on understanding the willingness of incarcerated individuals to access Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) services. This study aims to provide educational programs before and after release and facilitate the linkage of participants to community health centers for PrEP services.

The Project Assistant will play a key role in data collection, project management, administrative tasks, and research dissemination. This part-time position is funded for 36 months and requires a detail-oriented, organized, and proactive individual who can meet project deadlines and facilitate effective collaboration between investigators and correctional facilities. This role provides an excellent opportunity to contribute to HIV prevention research, gain experience in public health interventions, and support the linkage of justice-involved individuals to essential healthcare services.

Key Responsibilities:

Obtain informed consent from incarcerated individuals participating in the study.

Conduct structured surveys and interviews with consenting participants to assess attitudes, beliefs, and willingness to uptake PrEP.

Enter survey data into Qualtrics in real time during study activities.

Serves as the liaison between research investigators and correctional facilities/authorities, ensuring smooth communication and coordination.

Organize and maintain electronic and paper files for study participants, ensuring data accuracy and confidentiality.

Assist with meeting coordination, project scheduling, and general administrative support.

Support dissemination of study findings, including assistance with abstracts, manuscripts, literature reviews, and conference presentations.

Ensure compliance with institutional and ethical guidelines for research involving incarcerated populations.

Assist with additional office and project management tasks as needed.

Conduct above research on site in NC Prisons.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Experience with public health or infectious diseases research.

Experience with incarcerated individuals.

Experience with survey administration, qualitative research, or public health research.

Proficiency in Qualtrics or other survey/data collection platforms.

Strong organizational and time-management skills to meet project deadlines.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research setting.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, especially when engaging with vulnerable populations.

Experience working in criminal justice, public health, or community outreach settings is beneficial.
