Position Summary
The University of North Carolina Chapel Hill has an outstanding opportunity for an independent, passionate, driven, and well-organized contributor to serve as a Research Coordinator/Associate to Dr. Chemtai Mungo to help investigate context-specific methods for prevention of cervical cancer in low-resource settings. The Division of Global Women’s Health at UNC Chapel Hill seeks to use innovative research and capacity building to improve women’s lives in the world’s poorest countries. Dr. Mungo is a ObGyn physician researcher with a strong award and publication record who is passionate about pursuing equity in global women’s health. Dr. Mungo’s research is focused on building the evidence base for self-administered therapies for cervical precancer treatment in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) through clinical trials.

The Research Specialist will be responsible for operational management and oversight of international studies from proposal through close-out. The role will include leading planning and oversight of study implementation including clinical trials, monitoring regulatory and award compliance, assisting in literature review, grant writing, and assisting with both qualitative and quantitative analysis, writing and dissemination.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year of related training or experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
  • Strong interest and passion for global women’s health/social determinants of health with self-motivation for independent learning
  • Independent time management skills, including ability to prioritize workload
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate in a cross-cultural environment
  • Operational management skills needed to plan, coordinate, and complete projects
  • Intermediate or higher-level skills in MS Office
  • Ability to organize and motivate others

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
  • Prior experience working with marginalized populations related to health issues
  • Familiarity with maternal and child health fields
  • Prior international experience
  • Willingness to travel internationally
  • Experience with grant writing or management
  • Prior experience with clinical research or trials
