Job summary

Northwest ISD seeks a Special Education Teacher for the SOAR Unit to support learning and growth for students with disabilities. You will develop and modify curricula, prepare lessons, and provide ARD-guided instruction in a self-contained or team setting, ensuring compliance with IEP goals.

Collaborate with teachers, parents, and staff; document progress, manage behavior per IEP, and utilize technology to enhance instruction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field required.
• Valid Texas certificate with required special education endorsements for assignments.
• Semi-Annual Certification (Periodic Certification) for Single Cost Objective employees.
• Ability to work effectively with school and community population.
• Knowledge of ARD Committee process and IEP goal setting/implementation.
• General knowledge of curriculum and instruction.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with students, parents, and staff to develop IEPs through the ARD process for each student.
• Implement instructional, therapeutic, or skill development programs and document preparation.
• Plan and use instructional strategies and materials aligned to student needs.
• Work with classroom teachers to modify curricula and support students in regular classes.
• Participate in ARD meetings regularly.
• Assess student learning styles and plan instruction accordingly.
• Present subject matter per IEP guidelines.
• Use diverse instructional techniques and media to meet student needs.
• Supervise teacher aides and volunteers.
• Incorporate technology into teaching/learning activities.
• Assess student achievement using formal and informal methods.
• Provide or supervise personal/medical care per IEP.
• Support extracurricular activities as assigned and sponsor approved activities.
