Job summary

Job description

Position Type: Full-time, benefited, 10-month position.

Housing: For candidates out of the area, a 6-month temporary housing arrangement could be made available upon hire.

Position Summary

The Snowsports School Manager is responsible for the safe and efficient operations and coordination of the Snowsports School. This position provides leadership and coordination to the Ski and Snowboard instructors and supervisors. This position remains an active participant and collaborator with the instructors and supervisors. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Winter Operations. The Snowsports School Manager is a full-time year-round position that is budgeted for ten (10) months of the year, with a two (2) month break during the off-season.

Essential Functions
  • Provide excellent customer service to members, guests, business partners and employees. Ensures all staff meet or exceed the highest level of guest service in the performance of their duties.
  • Manage department supervisors and instructors, responsible for overall direction, coordination and evaluation of each supervisor and instructor.
  • Interview and hire staff in the HRIS system, submitting required paperwork to HR in a timely manner. Orient, train, direct, motivate, evaluate and discipline all assigned staff and oversee work schedules in accordance with Tahoe Donner Association policies.
  • Maintain current knowledge of Snowsports trends including technical and equipment trends by participation in other local, regional and/or national association meetings and seminars.
  • Participate in the development and administration of the operation’s budgets; direct the forecast of additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies; monitor and approve expenditures.
  • Ensures compliance with all safety regulations and ensure a clean and safe working environment with active participation in the health and safety program. Implement and evaluate effectiveness of established safety procedures and policies designed to reduce work related accidents and general liability exposure for the Snowsports School.
  • Coordinate with the Communications Department to develop appropriate marketing strategies and plans to enhance participation at the Snowsports School; participate in the publishing and distribution of informational and promotional literature and website.
  • Responsible for product expenses and accounting for safekeeping of the same according to established written policy and procedures; certify, categorize and upload according to Association procedures all invoices for payment.
  • Respond timely to inquiries and/or complaints regarding service or conditions.
Qualifications
  • Requires valid class C Driver License with a driving record meeting minimum standards required by the Association Insurance.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid certifications recommended.
  • Current Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) membership and Level III certification required. Level II candidates actively involved in the Level III certification process may be considered.
  • At least one year in a supervisory capacity.
  • Knowledge of RTP systems is a plus.
  • Cursory knowledge of Microsoft Office, basic accounting capabilities, organization and documentation.

These skills and abilities are typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a four‑year college or technical school and five years related experience and training directing or supervising a ski and Snowboard School; or an equivalent combination of formal training, education and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform all of the duties of the position.
