Job summary

The Summit at Snoqualmie, operated by Boyne Resorts, seeks an experienced Snowmaker II to build on Snowmaker I fundamentals and operate a wider range of snowmaking equipment with greater independence. This physically demanding role requires strong troubleshooting and the ability to work on mountainous terrain in all weather.

Located at Snoqualmie Pass, WA, the resort offers four mountain areas, a snow tubing park, Nordic center, SnowSports School, and 10+ food and beverage outlets.

Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of snowmaking or mountain operations experience
  • Experience troubleshooting equipment issues and assessing snow quality
  • Flexible schedule including day and night shifts, weekends, and holidays
  • Physically capable of negotiating mountainous terrain
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and maintain safety
  • Must be at least 18 years old and have a valid driver's license
  • Preferred: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred: Experience with SMI equipment or similar systems

Responsibilities

  • Assess wind direction variability and plan gun runs to prevent ice buildup
  • Work independently on full gun runs, managing time and terrain decisions
  • Operate SMI Automated Valve Manifolds and hydrant actuators, including stage selection and installation
  • Operate HTM H-Series hydrants with internal drain and drain valve procedures
  • Configure nozzle settings and inspect spray manifolds; check nucleators
  • Assess snow quality and differentiate output types from optimal snow production
  • Troubleshoot common gun issues (frozen nozzles, clogged orifices, low pressure)
  • Communicate gun-state changes via radio
  • Operate Snowmobiles/ATVs/UTVs safely on mountain terrain
  • Follow safety protocols and assist as needed

Overview

As a Summit at Snoqualmie Snowmaker II, you build on Snowmaker I fundamentals to operate a wider range of snowmaking equipment with greater independence. This hands-on and physically demanding position is suited to snowmakers who are developing stronger technical proficiency, troubleshooting ability, and confidence working with less direct supervision on mountainous terrain in all types of weather.

Come work and play at Seattle's home mountain, The Summit at Snoqualmie. Located an hour West of Seattle via Interstate 90 at Snoqualmie Pass, The Summit includes four unique mountain areas, a snow tubing park, Nordic center, SnowSports School, and 10+ food and beverage establishments.

Responsibilities

Job duties may include, but are not limited to:

Long Term Thinking
  • Assess variability in wind direction each night, planning gun runs proactively to prevent ice buildup on guns, chairs, trees, etc.
  • Work independently on full gun runs, managing own time and terrain decisions
Excellence in Execution
  • Operate SMI Automated Valve Manifolds and hydrant actuators, including stage selection and actuator clamp installation
  • Operate HTM H-Series hydrants with internal drain, including drain valve procedures
  • Configure nozzle settings, inspect spray manifolds, and check/adjust nucleators on tower guns
  • Assess snow quality, distinguishing wet, dry, and low-quality output from optimal snow production
  • Troubleshoot common gun issues, including frozen nozzles, clogged orifices, and low pressure
  • Communicate accurate and timely gun-state changes via radio
  • Operate Snowmobiles/ATVs/UTVs safely on steep, variable mountain terrain
Attitude is Everything
  • Maintain a well shoveled working space, keeping vault lids clean and guns dug out
  • Manage high-pressure air/water hazards, and recognize and respond to hose bursts
  • Follow snowcat and snowmobile proximity protocols, including approach procedures and blind-spot awareness
  • Perform additional duties/support when necessary
Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old and have a valid driver's license
Preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience with SMI Automated Valve Manifolds, HTM H-Series hydrants, or similar automated snowmaking systems

Wage and Benefit Info

The wage range for this positions is: from $26.50-27.00/hr DOE

This is a non-benefited role.

All individuals may contribute to the 401(k). An employee must work 1,000 hours in a calendar year to qualify for the discretionary match (there is a 2 year vesting cliff).

All individuals accrue sick time at 1 hour per 40 hours worked to a maximum of 64 hours per year.
