Job summary

Alterra Mountain Company seeks a Seasonal Entry Snowmaker at Palisades Tahoe to operate and maintain the snowmaking system, creating optimal artificial snow for skiing and snowboarding. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and prepared to perform essential duties on hill and in equipment rooms.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • One year snowmaking experience and/or training required.
  • Must possess valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, tear down, and maintain snowmaking system: gun and hoses setup, machine check, on-hill shoveling.
  • Manufacture snow meeting quality standards.
  • Adjust computer system during operations.
  • Travel on snow to check system operation and perform minor repairs.
  • Monitor snow quality and adjust equipment as needed.
  • Keep accurate records of events and machine performance.
  • Operate and maintain snowmaking facilities and related rooms in a clean, orderly manner.

Job Summary:

Operates and maintains snowmaking system to create optimal skiing and snowboarding surface of man-made snow.

Applicants must be 18 years of age.

Hourly:

The base hourly pay range below represents the low and high end of the Palisades Tahoe Resort, LLC's hourly pay range for this position. Actual pay will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to experience, education, training, location, merit system, quantity or quality of production, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel. The range listed is just one component of Palisades Tahoe Resort, LLC's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term and long-term incentives and many region-specific benefits.

Base hourly pay range: $18.00 - $32.14 per hour

Entry Snowmaker- Essential Job Responsibilities/Duties/Tasks
  • Set up, tear down, and maintain snowmaking system: gun and hoses set up, machine check out, on hill shoveling
  • Manufacture snow which meets or exceeds established quality standards
  • Make the necessary adjustments to the computer system during operational periods
  • Travel over the snow on steep terrain by foot or via snowmobile in order to check on system operation and to perform adjustments and minor repairs
  • Monitor quality of snow produced; make adjustments to snowmaking equipment as necessary
  • Accurate record keeping regarding significant events and machine performance
  • Operate and maintain snowmaking facility, ponds, compressor rooms, locker rooms, facilities in a clean and orderly manner. Perform general cleaning and housekeeping tasks
  • Responsible for checkout and return of all small tools to original locations
  • Report any malfunctions or needed repairs of operational problems to supervisor immediately
  • Must be able to operate snowmaking equipment and snowmobiles in compliance with the Palisades Tahoe safety policy
Experienced Snowmaker- Job Duties: (in addition to job responsibilities listed for Entry Snowmaker)
  • Assists in training and development of entry and intermediate staff
  • Recommends adjustments to improve snow quality and efficiency
Competencies and Job Requirements:
Required:

Must be capable of frequently carrying, lifting. pushing or pulling up to 50lbs, and occasionally carrying, lifting. pushing or pulling up to 100lbs Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perceptions and the ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions:
Indoor/Outdoor:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently be exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee may encounter extreme winter cold and blizzard conditions.

Hazardous Materials/Noise:

The noise level in the work place is usually moderate, this job may experience hazards such as mechanical, electrical, fumes, odors, dusts, gases.

Entry Snowmaker- Education and Experience:
Required:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One year snowmaking experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Knowledge of mountain operations

Required:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Three years snowmaking experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
